Toddler Room Where has our summer gone?! We’ve had lots of fun this summer! The first two weeks in August our theme was food. We had the kids bring in their favorite foods and they got to enjoy them during snack time! We read some food themed books to the children and sang some food songs! The third week in August we learned about movement! This was a really fun week! We poured paint on a large piece of paper for each of the children and let them walk thru the paint with their bare feet! They just loved doing that! Another project we did was we laid a large piece of paper on the floor and let the children color. We have this paper hanging outside our room. Make sure to check it out! The last week in August our theme was safety. This week we made pictures of traffic light. We colored a picture of a police officer, and although it doesn’t go with our theme, we are really hoping to get a water day in since we haven’t had one yet! Next we will be welcoming fall with open arms, after this hot and muggy weather we have been having! September Themes: Family 5 senses Emotions Body Parts Ocean Room Here comes fall! Please remember to check you child’s spare clothes for weather appropriate clothing. A big welcome to all our new friends that have joined us. We have a lot of fun things planned in the near future and we are looking forward to meeting all of you! There will be a school supply list coming soon. Bring whatever you can. August was a very exciting month! We had a couple of water days. The children really loved getting wet and playing with their friends in the pool. We focused on the color blue. Our Shape was the triangle. We also learned about food for two weeks. We talked about healthy foods. Also, we discussed our favorite foods. We finished out the month learning about different kinds of movement. What makes things move and how we move. It’s almost time for the kids to go back to school. The first week in August was Transportation on the Water. We discussed everything that goes on the water and what we need to be safe on the water. We also talked about boats and ships that carry people and things across the water. Read books about water & boats. I provided an assortment of objects & we predict whether objects will sink or float. The children sang “Row, Row, and Row Your Boat”. There were two themes we talked about this month; one was Zoo Animals that was the second week in August & the other theme was Forest Animals which was the last week in August. These were appropriate themes to introduce to the children because they are fascinated by the animals and where they live. The children became familiar with the names, where their homes are and what they eat. We did an animal sort games, showed the children pictures of all sorts of animals and they even told me where it lives; they actually did a very good job. The children’s favorite song was about monkeys and introduced new songs and finger plays. This week for the Evergreen room and fun for everyone---The Circus! Developing an awareness of special people and animals enhances an appreciation of others. It also stimulates children’s curiosity to learn more about other people & jobs people have. The children learned about many acts & performances people & animals do at the Circus. The children even acted out some acts; did lots of activities. August is over and it is time to start a new school year. We will miss all the kids going on to kindergarten and 4K, but excited to get to know all the new 3K kids. August in review: We started off August with fairs and circuses. A lot of the children were thinking about or had gone to the Alto Fair. We learned some new songs about the circus and now sing it all the time. Ask your children if they know a song about the circus. We also had fun coloring and practicing cutting different types of animals you would see at a circus or fair. We read books about silly animals going to the fair and even watched charlottes web. We spent the next week camping out. We made a tent out of chairs and sheets and used some very special finger flashlights. We looked at the different shapes that tents can be and other shapes around the campground. We read some fun books like “Froggy goes camping”, and “Some More S’mores?”. We finished our week with making our own s’mores. They were gooey delicious! With school just around the corner we decided to talk about new friends and places. Even if your child is going to 4K, there will be a new teacher and many new friends. It can be fun and a little scary at first. We read many books about other children and animals going to school for the first time, or dealing with not so nice kids at school. We practiced writing our names or the first letter of our names so that we can be ready to write them on our homework! We took plenty of walks in our last week of the month. We wanted to make sure that we knew about bus, street, and train safety. We talked about looking both ways before we crossed the street. We made make believe busses out of boxes and took turns driving to school in them. We followed train safety rules and stopped, looked, and listened to make sure it was safe to cross the railroad tracks. We read one of our favorite characters Froggy and got to go with him on the bus to school. We got down our car mat and carefully drove our busses and cars all over town!
