Organic SRI In Balaghat SRI farming was done with 350 out of 2085 farmers with only organic inputs in the year 2013-14. In this technique organic form of farming was practiced in which the land was deep ploughed with the help of tractors and sunhemp and dhencha were used for green manure. Pheromone trap and sticky traps were also used to reduce the attack by pests and organic manure was used with some farmers. Some of the farmers practiced farming using indigenous seeds such as bhaduchinga, jeerashankar, sapri, peeli luchai, chipda, lal dhan etc with SRI technique. 2085 farmers sprayed Jivamrit 2-3 times and in order to bring diseases under control neemastra and agni astra were used. In the year 2012-13 3000 farmers were extended support of drums and green manure by Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana in order to promote organic farming. Today villages like Dhutti, Amoli and Sawarjodi have emerged as organic villages. In this whole process the women had a major role to play. Each village had a Village level committee (VLC) which organized trainings for improved farming and these training were attended by both men and women. In order to see natural farming 400 farmers were taken on a tour to Maharastra’s Wardha District to Subhash Sharma’s farm. Paddy yield data – Authentication . Agriculture development Officer, farmer welfare, agriculture development section and rural agriculture extension officers on 30-10-2013 visited to village Vishrampur, Thakurtola and Changotola to the farms of demonstration farmers and demonstrated to them the yield basis where the farmers also participated in the process. In the process it was demonstrated how the paddy yield using SRI and Improved technique and using 1010, IR64 variety of seeds practiced under this program would be measured. Yield Measurement1. Panchyayat Aamgaon, village Vishrampur, name of the farmer- Chabeela Laxman, has area 2.6 acres of land, land type – irrigated and SRI technique –0. 40 acre using RH 1531 variety, date of harvesting 30-10-2013. With the help of agriculture development officer, farmer welfare and agriculture development section of the Agricultural department and the rural agriculture extension officers using 5*5 meters process the measurement was authenticated in which the yield per hectare came out to be 33.4 quintals while the actual yield came to be 30 quintals. This process was authenticated by the SADO, ADO and RAEO. 2. Name of the farmer: Nirmala Anuram, ST category, Patwari halka number 10 and selected Khasra number-4 , area- 0.8 hectare, land type – irrigated and SRI technique practiced in 1 acre of land with seed variety 1010, date of harvesting 30-10-2013. With the help of agriculture development officer (Mr. Hivse), farmer welfare and agriculture development section of the Agricultural department district Balaghat and the rural agriculture extension officers , Mr. P.S Patle using 5*5 metre process the measurement was authenticated in which the yield per hectare came out to be 54 quintal while the actual yield came to be 39.97 quintals while the actual yield came to be 30 quintals. This process was authenticated by the SADO, ADO and RAEO. The technique adopted by agriculture development officer was discussed in detail in which female farmer Nirmala also described in detail the technique she adopted for her farm and with the help of Mr. Hivse a success story was written. 3. Village Amoli- on 29-10-2013 rural agriculture extension officers L.K Khandekar authenticated farmer details. The name of the farmer- Rukmani Tarachand, category- ST , Patwari halka number 21 and selected Khasra number-3, she has area- 2.5 acre land, land type- un-irrigated , SRI technique practiced with seed variety 1010, date of harvesting 29-10-2013. Agriculture development officer, farmer welfare and agriculture development section of the Agricultural department and the rural agriculture extension officers using 5*5 meters process the measurement was authenticated in which the yield per hectare came out to be 40 quintals while the actual yield came to be 38.84 quintals. This process was authenticated by the SADO, ADO and RAEO. In this farm the organic method of farming was adopted. this is how 6 farmers in Amoli village 7 cultivated paddy through organic method. The farmers also found the practice of this technique very simple. After hearin this success story the Senior agriculture development officer, Mr. Hivse on 30-10-2013 organised a Paddy yield data –authentication and organic method workshop in Amoli for detailed demonstration in which 6 rural agriculture extension officers and village farmers visited female farmer Satula Gareeblal’s farm to see organic farming. This farm also demonstrated the sunhemp plantation on bunds for the purpose of seed production, its use and importance was also discussed with the farmers. Mr. Hivse also questioned Satula Gareeblal in detail, regarding the Organic farming of paddy. ORGANIC FARMING : SUCCESS STORY -1 I Satula, husband Gareeblal, belong to the Gond tribe and reside in the village of Amoli in Balaghat block. I am also a member of Mahalaxmi Tejaswini self-help group. I own 4 acres of land and a vermi-compost pit, an improved composting pit and a farm yard manure has been built near my house. I also have mango and lemon have been planted in my homestead . In the year 2013-14 I sowed 1010 variety of paddy in 2 acres of land. In the initial period after the arrival of the monsoons I broadcasted 10 kgs of sunhemp in 2 acres of land , the seed were mixed in the soil by ploughing the land with the help of ox and left it for 25 days. After 25 days when the sun plants were around 1 feet they were crushed and mixed in the field for green manure purpose with the help of tractor . I had also made a nursery where paddy seeds were broadcasted and once they were 12 days old saplings then they were transplanted in the field 1 at a time and in proper rows . I then sprayed Jeevamrit 3 times on the plants for plant health and to protect the plant from pest attack neem kada was prepared by mixing- Besharam, Lalten, Dhatura, Garadi and Neem leaf . Instead of cow dung manure I used vermi-compost manure, 5 quintals for 1 acre of land. After transplantation the field was weeded 3 times in every 15-20 days and sprayed the neem oil received from the agricultural department as a part of assistance provided to Mahila Kisan Shashaktikaran Pariyojana. On 30-10-2013, during harvesting, agriculture department and PRADAN professionals, collected the production data in two fields in an area of 5x5 meter square which was 10.5 kg in one field and 11.5 kg in the other that means on an average 11 kg per 5 square meter. Thus I am getting an average production of 44 quintal/hectare by organic farming. I have been practicing this technique of farming since last 4 years. Earlier the production used to be 20 quintal/hectare. Similarly, 40 other families are practicing organic farming. Mahila Kishan Shashaktikaran Pariyojna also provided full support. Success story - 2 I am woman farmer Sunita Dhanraj, a resident of Thakurtola village, Orma panchayat, block and district Balaghat. In the year 2013 I received MTU1010 variety of paddy from SADO of agricultural department under the Annapurna programme and organic manure, pheromone trap from Mahila Kishan Shashaktikaran Pariyojana for Rabi farming. 8 I practiced SRI technique for cultivation in which I treated the seeds and prepared a nursery. I used 50 kgs of DAP and 25 kgs of urea in 1 acre of land and sprayed Jeevamrit three times which I prepared in a drum got under Mahila Kishan Shashaktikaran Pariyojna. For insects & pests control, I prepared kadha using neem, besharam, garadhi leaves and sprayed it in the fields. Other than this I also used Phromone trap. PRADAN regularly provided support in this. All this resulted in a production of 46 quintals/hectare. It was calculated during harvesting by agriculture department and PRADAN proffesionals together on 30-10-2013. Earlier the production used to be only 20 quintals/ hectare. I also encourage other women of my village to practice SRI vidhi by showing them my fields. 9
