Character Education
The Character Education Committee nominates
2 students (1 male and 1 female) from each
grade 7-12 who are recognized for the
character trait of the month. The students will
be honoured with a picture and a certificate
and monthly candidates will be showcased on
the bulletin board across from the office. A
nomination ballot box is available in the office
for students and staff to submit their
nominations. Character Education is
embedded in the curriculum that we teach and
the actions we perform at Char-Lan.
Whenever possible, staff make a point to
connect their instruction and their efforts with
students to the character education values and
credo.
After School Club
Char-Lan’s After School Club is now open in
the Library Learning Commons. The After
School Club will be open to all grades. The
After School Club will operate in the mornings
on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and
Thursdays from 8:30-9:10 am. The club
will be open after school on Mondays,
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
from 3:30-4:10 pm. The space is available
for those students who would like to complete
their work in a quiet environment or for those
students who need some assistance or
supervision in order to complete their work.
This is a great opportunity to catch up on
homework or to receive some extra help. Staff
are on hand and eager to assist students.

Student Council Report
February was a busy month for Student
Council. Many activities such as twin day,
support Team Canada day, Olympic hockey,
and skating on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa
were held to brighten up the winter days.
Students enjoyed Valentine’s Day with a heart
Scavenger Hunt, and a large word search
puzzle competition. Students had the
opportunity to purchase Valentine candygrams
and flowers for their special someone and
friends. During Carnival Week, Char-Lan clubs
hosted a food day. OSAID sold lollipops,
Student Council sold pizza and drinks, and
Envirothon had a bake sale. Another day the
entire student body was treated to ice cream
sundaes. Finally, all students from grades 812 attended a semi-formal dance with a Mardi
Gras theme. It was held upstairs in the CharLan arena. The hall was beautifully decorated
with Mardi Gras balloons and colours. Each
student was given a
Mardi Gras string of
beads and a choice
of a mask or hat.
Crazy Dave was the
DJ, and he had
special effects. Refreshments were also
served which consisted of juice and a specially
decorated cake. The students had a wonderful
time at this festive occasion.
Lastly, the Carnival was called “Warm Hearts”
as it was dedicated to 2 special people
associated with Char-Lan. The Student Council
held various fundraisers to raise money to fight
cancer. The money is being donated to former
Char-Lan teacher, Stephanie Grady, and Baby
Emma. Last Friday, Student Council hosted a
hockey game fundraiser, and a bus trip to
Ottawa for skating and shopping. This raised a
lot of money for cancer. On Wednesday night,
the final fundraiser will take place. It is a
volleyball tournament after school. To date
over $1,500 has been raised for baby Emma
and Stephanie Grady. As usual Crusaders have
been very generous.
It was a busy, but productive month.

Charity Hockey Teams – Char-Lan
Boys vs OPP
On Friday, February 28th Char-Lan staff and
students enjoyed a charity hockey game pitting
our men’s Crusaders against OPP Officers and
school staff. Provincial Constable Joel Doiron
and Char-Lan staff organized a charity hockey
game which raised over $200.00 for the
Stephanie
Grady Wellness
Fund. It was a
hard fought
and enjoyable
battle;
nevertheless
our Crusader
students came out on top 7 to 4. Outstanding
goaltending kept the score to a respectable
level. Crusader staff and students would like
to thank JD and all of the OPP and the
Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department for
their involvement in this worthwhile and
spirited game!

very important to call the school and request
that work be sent home for the student.
