Our school Mission is: to Strive to come up with Kenyans of High Integrity and who will make the country a better home in the planet. The school has only boys aged between thirteen to twenty four years. It is located on the south west part of Narok County in the Rift valley in Kenya. It is about 200 km from the capital city of Nairobi. The area is generally dry but receives rainfall between December and May. People here practice pastoralism and also farming. The Dominant tribe is Maasai of Kenya. The school does the national examinations under the 8-4-4 system of education. The school also boarders the famous Maasai Mara National Reserve known for wild beast migration. This our major basis why we have chosen this business as this is the hub for tourist from all over the world, our main customers. Section C: Your Resources TOP TIP! We also have a room which can be used during production of our products. The waste papers are used for recycling and make products from. The school is also equipped with some computers where we can do research on various ways of making our products and link with the other schools and partners. E.g. ‘Our school is near a tourist attraction, so we could sell handicrafts to local tourists.’ (2) As we indicated earlier, our school is located next to the famous Maasai Mara National Reserve hence many people will buy our products. The business we would like to set up is: 1.Handicrafts e.g making bracelets, rings and traditional dress and Artwork and painting or artistic expressions to sell to tourists Reason 1: This business idea will create a unique attractive product that will help supply to the local business owners and our clients products of high quality about and at end the customers will see the need to be responsible consumers by not disposing off materials that can be recycled into the environment thus polluting it. Reason 2: This business can be both profitable and educational as well as provide a service to the local community by keeping toxic materials out of school and local environment especially waste paper and plastics. Students will learn skills that will help them in future life after school. Reason 3: It has small start-up costs since we have access to most of the materials needed for example waste papers, plastics , beads and fabrics from local community and the profits we make we use to expand the business and reward best students. 2 New Business Idea Template 2015 7. How does your Final Business idea meet the People, Profit, Planet criteria? (6). People: This business meets the people criteria because we will be educating the local community about sustainability practices and making them more aware of their choices as consumers. We are aware of how much damage waste products can bring to our environment and effects that can have on the people. We thus recycle these wastes to reduce the dangers. The business will be used as a platform to train young people on entrepreneur skills that will benefit them in future. Profit: This business meets the profit criteria because the main products we produce like assortment of jewelleries, paintings, drawings and dress making are in high demand by the foreign tourists and thus a sure potential of maximizing profit. Planet: This business meets the planet criteria because recycling of waste products like plastics will save our environment from pollutants which may have adverse effects not only to human beings but also to plants and the environment. We shall therefore contribute a lot to salvaging the ozone layer from depletion. Section F: Start-up capital a) Does your business need start up capital (money)? We have started recruitng as many members as possible into the business club. Each member registers with ksh. 200 each, and monthly share of ksh. 20. This money will be used to start-up ur business by buying materials like paints, beads, fabriscs etc. We have also written proposals to some organisations requesting some funds to start-up the business. The school Board of management has also promised to give us ksh, 3000 ( about 30 Us Dollars) to start with.
