WELCOME TO SHANGHAI The most dynamic city in the world’s fastest- changing nation, Shanghai is an exhilarating, ever-morphing metropolis that isn’t just living China’s dream, but is setting the pace for the rest of the world. With a population of more than 23 million, Shanghai is the largest and most developed city in China. Shanghai was where China first met the West and it’s still a frontier town, obsessed with the latest fads, fashions and technology. In the past 20 years Shanghai has become an attractive city for tourists from all over the world. Overnight at The Bund Riverside Hotel **** Day 2 20th Apr. 2012 Fri. Shanghai (B, L, D) Breakfast at leisure at hotel Morning visiting the Bund, Yu Garden and the Old Town of Shanghai The Bund is a famous waterfront and regarded as the symbol of Shanghai for hundreds of years. It is on the west bank of Huangpu River, once was the financial center of the Far East. It is often referred to as "The Museum of Buildings", as many different styles of European buildings can be found here. Now it is even more attractive as you can also see modern skyscrapers just opposite the Huangpu River. That gives you a strong contrast between modern life and the past. Yu Garden, a place of peace and comfort in the heart of bustling Shanghai, dates back to the fabled Ming Dynasty. Now a popular tourist destination, Yu Garden began as a private garden created by Pan Yunduan, who spent almost 20 years - and all of his savings - to build a garden in order to please his parents in their old age. The garden is called "Yu Garden" because "Yu" in Chinese means "peace and health". Free time in the Old Town Lunch at Chinese restaurant Afternoon visiting the Fabric Market and Nanjing Rd. The famous Shanghai Fabric Market is home to hundreds of tailors and seamstresses, and is the city's prime destination for bespoke clothing garments. If it can be stitched and sewn, they can do it for you at the South Bund Fabric Market. China's premier shopping street, 5-kms-long Nanjing Road, starts at the Bund in the east and ends in the west at the Jing'an Temple. Nanjing Road is the most bustling and prosperous pedestrian commercial street in the city. With majestic buildings, various shops, mixed streams of people and splendid night scene, it is a must-visit for travelers from all over the world to Shanghai. During a non-commercial test run on 12 November 2003, a maglev train achieved a Chinese record speed of 501 km/h (311 mph). The train line was designed to connect Shanghai Pudong International Airport and the outskirts of central Pudong where passengers could interchange to the Shanghai Metro to continue their trip to the city center. Public commercial service commenced on 1 January 2004. The top operational commercial speed of this train is 431 km/h (268 mph), making it the world's fastest train in regular commercial services since its opening in 2004, faster than previous record holder at 367 km/h (228 mph) with TGV in France and also faster than the latest CRH conventional wheel train in China at 350 km/h (217 mph). The Shanghai World Financial Center is a super tall skyscraper in Pudong, Shanghai, designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox. It is a mixed use skyscraper which consists of offices, hotels, conference rooms, observation decks and shopping malls on the ground floors. Soaring 474 meters above the ground, the 100th floor observation deck provides a spectacular view of downtown Shanghai and the Huangpu River below. Transfer to the Chinese restaurant for lunch Afternoon visiting the French Concession, Fuxing Park and Shanghai Museum The French Concession was the earliest, biggest and most prosperous Concession in Shanghai. This area is the premier residential and retail districts of Shanghai. It is also a very popular tourist destination for both Chinese and foreigners. With its peaceful, picturesque, tree lined streets, this area retains an air of the "Paris of the East". At the same time, many of the small backstreets still have a very local feel. Xintiandi and Shanghai art street Tianzifang are also in French Concession. Walking around these two places, you can get an idea of traditional Shanghai lifestyle, as well as enjoy Shanghai traditional buildings. As a museum of ancient Chinese art, Shanghai Museum possesses a collection of 120,000 precious works of art. Its rich and high-quality collection of ancient Chinese bronze, ceramics, painting and calligraphy is specially celebrated in the world. Founded and first open to the public in the building previously of the horseracing club in 1952, the museum developed very quickly in aspects of acquisition, conservation, research, exhibition, education and cultural exchanges with other institutes. In 1996. The 29.5 meters high new building has a construction space of 39,200 square meters. Its unique architectural form of a round top with a square base, symbolizing the ancient Chinese philosophy that the square earth is under the round sky, is a distinguished architectural combination of traditional feature and modern spirit. The present Shanghai Museum has eleven galleries and three special temporary exhibition halls. It extends warm welcome to the visitors from all over the world. Transfer back to the hotel and rest Transfer to the Chinese restaurant for dinner followed by ERA show The Multimedia Theatrical Spectacular ERA Intersection of Time has been performed since its debut at Shanghai Circus World in September 2005. Day 4 22nd Apr. 2012 Sun. Shanghai (B, L, D) Breakfast at leisure at hotel Morning visiting the Moore Church, People’s Park and Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center The Moore Church (also known as The Mu'en Church), located in Shanghai downtown, was originally the Methodist church of Shanghai. First established in 1887, the church was formerly named the Moore Church to memorize the great American donator Moore. The church was a new gothic church designed by a European architect. The construction was completed in 1931. It features a brick-and-wood structure. It has a big lobby, and the central part is the main body of the church. It can accommodate about 1,000 people. The rectangle pillars in the hall, the balusters in the balcony, and the bema are covered with artificial stones. The concrete ribbed vault can be seen inside the church. Occupying the site of the colonial racetrack, People’s Park with its Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art and pond-side bar, Barbarossa are all overlooked by Tomorrow Square and the Shanghai Art Museum. On weekend mornings an unofficial matchmaking market is held here, where parents show up with their children’s CVs (but without the children) in an attempt to find a suitably successful spouse. Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center is located in the People’s Square. The design of the building is inspired by the traditional Chinese city gate. The modern central symmetric structure shows the aesthetic concept of China’s traditional architecture. And the grid roof of the building symbolizes Shanghai’s city flower magnolia. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Shanghai. Themed on “City, Citizens, Environment, and Development”, the Center displays the past, present and future of Shanghai by traditional and modern displaying means. It is regarded as the “Window of the City” where people can know about Shanghai.
