Standard
• S/MIME (Security/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) is
an email security standard designed to meet stringent
security requirements
• The National Security Agency will use BlackBerry with
S/MIME capabilities to deploy this secure email standard on
BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds used by various
government organizations, including the Department of
Defense
• S/MIME is an email-system independent, Internet standards
based protocol that utilizes public key cryptography to
