158 churches, and 73 mosques within the city.
Despite efforts to maintain peaceful religious
coexistence, some sites, such as the Temple
Mount, have been a continuous source of
friction and controversy.

venerated as the sole remnant of
the Holy Temple. It has become
a place of pilgrimage for Jews,
as it is the closest permitted
accessible site to the holiest spot
in Judaism
