The Access Centre will provide a number of workshops throughout the first semester. These workshops are mandatory for all DARE students (where your
timetable permits). It is strongly recommended that all other first year students registered with the Access Centre for Disability Support also take the
opportunity to attend these workshops.
These workshops cover the most important skills you will need throughout your time as a student and in the workplace.
 Academic Skills Workshop 1: Note Taking
o Mind mapping, organisation, time management
 Academic Skills Workshop 2: Study Skills
o Learning styles, reading strategies, memory techniques
 Academic Skills Workshop 3: Academic Writing
o Writing styles, proofreading & editing, grammar & punctuation
 Academic Skills Workshop 4: Research Skills
o Library research, online research, referencing & bibliographies
 Academic Skills Workshop 5: Exam Preparation
o Revision techniques, exam strategies, stress management
 Unilink Workshop
o Managing Your Student Role: College can be a stressful place, with trying to manage academic and social aspects. This practical session,
presented by an occupational therapist from the Unilink service, aims to provide you with an opportunity to develop practical skills and
strategies that may support you in managing your role as a student, both academically and socially. Useful information, tips and techniques on
developing balanced routines, managing health and wellbeing and organisational and time management skills will be presented.
 Assistive Technology Workshops
o Livescribe, Texthelp, Apps and Free Resources
The Unilink Workshop and Assistive Technology Workshops will be offered once in the semester. However our Academic Skills Workshops are each offered at
four times:
 Monday: 1-1.50pm - G107 (Newman/Arts)
 Tuesday: 1.1.50pm – Newman Theatre 1 (Arts)
 Wednesday: 1.1.50pm - A105 (Newman/Arts)
