2015 Soybean Contract
On behalf of the North Dakota State University Agricultural Experiment Station, the Williston
Research Extension Center (WREC) would like to extend an invitation to seed companies or their representative to submit entries into our irrigated and/or dryland soybean performance tests for 2015.
Varieties can be tested on dryland at Williston and/or under irrigation at our site in Nesson
Valley using small plot techniques. At each location, two separate trials will be conducted, one containing only Roundup Ready varieties and the other only conventional varieties. All cultivars in the Roundup Ready trials should contain the Roundup Ready gene as the trial will be sprayed with Roundup. North Dakota registered insecticide and fungicide seed treatments are allowed if your hybrid is marketed with these treatments applied to them. Please note that no additional seed treatments will be applied after it arrives at the WREC. Please, have your cultivar(s) tested for germination and vigor if possible to ensure the highest quality seed is being entered in the cultivar trials. If not listed, we will use a 90% germination rate to calculate seeding rate. Target plant population is 180,000 pure live seeds per acre for irrigated and 140,000 pure live seeds per acre for dryland. The plots are solid seeded in four foot wide plots with four replications. The trials will be managed with the best management practices for our location. Soybeans are inoculated with granular inoculum at each location regardless of soil nitrogen test.
The WREC is in Zone 4 of the ND maturity regions. Typically in our region a 0.6 rating or less should be safe from frost in most years. Please list the maturity group (000, 00, 0) followed by a decimal and another number, ranging from 0-9, which indicates maturity rankings within each maturity group, e.g. 00.4, 00.9, 0.0, 0.1….
Results from our soybean performance tests are published in the Williston Research Extension
Center’s annual report in late December and are available on our website: http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/WillistonREC/. The data will also be published in the annual Extension
Bulletin A-843, “North Dakota Soybean Performance Testing”. Data from these North Dakota
State University Agricultural Experiment Station trials shall not be used in advertising to indicate
North Dakota Experiment Station recommendation of any specific hybrid. Data from experimental lines will not be published in NDSU Extension Service bulletins. Please specify in the box provided if a line is experimental or commercially available.
The charge for soybean testing is $250 per entry per trial.
Contact the WREC for details regarding the charge for advanced or screening trials. There will be no refunds in the event of a natural disaster such as hail or frost. Due to the large increase in entries in the trials and in order to keep trial size at a reasonable level, we reserve the right to limit the number of entries should that (number) become a problem. The performance test is open to include both commercial and experimental lines. If a cultivar was tested last year as an experimental, please inform us of the past experimental designation.
The contract entry form deadline is March 20, with seed and payment due no later than
March 30 for inclusion into these trials. Please fill out the entry form below and email back as an attachment.
