After the trial Dill is commenting on what he would like to be when he grows up. The significance is that Dill has empathized with Tom at the trial but does not like the way he feels when he empathizes, so he will choose not to be empathetic and not to try to make a change; he chooses to get off of the road to Atticus. The significance is that Scout is being empathetic. Her action shows that she has internalized the lesson that Atticus has taught her.
