Running head: CAREER DEVELOPMENT PLAN Career Development Plan Elizabeth Andrews AET/550 –Performance Improvement and Management May 11, 2015 Charles Crissey 1 CAREER DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2 Career Development Plan SEQUENCE OF ACTIONS RESOURCES START DATE COMPLETION DATE University of Phoenix, International Society for Performance Improvement & Connecticut Department of Education Currently Started May 2015 Education: In any field a proper education is one of the important cornerstones of a successful career. Working as a Performance improvement practitioner is no different. I have already received a Bachelors degree for the intended area I wish to base my performance improvement career. I plan to work within the field of public education to help struggling schools and educational programs solve student, staff, and faculty performance deficiencies. This may include employee turnover, student dropout rates, test score levels, and much more. My education has provided me with the background knowledge necessary for navigating the educational system’s, standards, expectations, and processes. I am currently finishing a masters program that has provided me the knowledge necessary to utilize my performance improvement services to various educational systems and organizations. This includes an understanding of human performance technology, motivational tactics, how to analyze multiple forms of data, develop appropriate interventions, and thoroughly evaluate the success of a performance improvement plan and its’ interventions. Field Experience: In order to achieve my goal as a certified performance improvement practitioner I will need a good deal of field experiences. According to "International Society For Performance Improvement" (2015), " A minimum of three years of experience in improving performance “(Certified Performance Technologist) is required before applying for an ISPI certification. Field experience will provide me with more than just an opportunity to practice what I have learned through my education. It will aid me in building on my personal strengths and improve personal areas of weakness. Working within an organization may also expose me to new intrapersonal experiences through activities and events such as seminars and workshops. These experiences can help me create connections between others and myself in the field. It is my Mentors, coaches, colleagues, company/industry workshops, and seminars September 2015 September 2018 CAREER DEVELOPMENT PLAN 3 belief that many of the people that I will meet during this experience will also become a source of support and guidance as I pursue my goal as a certified performance improvement practitioner. All of these experiences in the field will build my knowledge base, confidence, and proficiency as a Performance Improvement practitioner. Performance Improvement Projects: The International Society for Performance improvement requires more than just field experience. IPSI also wants to see proof of 3 to 7 performance improvement projects that I have conducted demonstrating my ability to satisfy the standards at least three times ("International Society For Performance Improvement", 2015). It is my estimation that this will take a minimum of 2 years as most performance improvement plans take a great deal of time to develop, implement, and review. I must also keep in mind that not all of my performance improvement endeavors will be successful in meeting the IPSI standards, so it will be necessary to perform more than 3 performance improvement projects. For this reason it will be vital that I use the resources I have built up through both my educational and field experiences to help me find new opportunities to showcase my skills as a performance improvement practitioner. Certification: Certification is the final step in reaching my goal as a certified performance improvement practitioner. In conjunction with the steps listed previously the International Society for Performance improvement has a list of requirements before I can receive my certification. According to the "International Society For Performance Improvement" (2015), the requirements include: “ A minimum of three years of experience in improving performance, your commitment to the Code of Ethics, a description of three to seven projects demonstrating your ability to satisfy the standards at least three times, attestations by employers or clients that the work descriptions accurately reflect the results achieved, how the work was done, and that you did the work, peer review of your application by trained reviewers who use a standardized checklist to confirm you met the standards, Your commitment to recertify every three years by completing a minimum amount of professional development that may be augmented by The International Society for Performance Improvement, The association for Talented Development, The University of Phoenix, Managers, and employers. The International Society for Performance Improvement, employers, colleagues, and clients. September 2016 October 2018 September 2018 January 2019 CAREER DEVELOPMENT PLAN volunteer service” (Certified Performance Technologist). Once I have received this certification I will be able to go into the performance improvement arena with confidence knowing that I have the knowledge, experience, and credentials to attract the clients I want and serve their needs to the highest degree. 4 CAREER DEVELOPMENT PLAN 5 References Association for talented development.
