Business Technology Applications
Syllabus

PROGRAM GOALS:
To prepare students for careers in Business/Marketing.
To help students assume their economic roles as consumers, workers, and citizens.
To assist students in preparing for professional careers requiring advanced study.
COURSE DESCRIPTION/GOALS:
Business Technology Applications is a one-credit course designed to assist students in developing technological
proficiencies in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, communications, Internet use, ethics, and
careers using technology applications. Simulations and projects promoting teamwork, leadership, and workplace
skills offer further opportunities for application of knowledge and skills. There is no prerequisite.

Shelley, Cashman and Vermaat, Microsoft Office 2007 Introductory Concepts and Techniques, Course Technology,
Cengage Learning, 2008.
SUPPLIES NEEDED: Pen or Pencil
COURSE FEE:
The course fee is $16; the due date for fees is Thursday, January 16, 2014. In accordance with school policy,
students eligible for reduced lunches pay $8.00 for fees and students eligible for free lunches are exempt from paying
the fee. It is the student’s responsibility to inform the teacher of their eligibility.
ASSESSMENT:
Tests – objective and production
Classwork – daily work, vocabulary, projects, participation
Final Grade:
1st Nine Weeks Grade – 40%
2nd Nine Weeks Grade – 40%
Final Exam – 20%
Grading Scale:
A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 70-79
D = 60-69
F = 59 and below
ATTENDANCE:
It is your responsibility to bring an excuse when you have been absent and to make up your work. Some work must be
done at school so you must schedule a time to make up missed work. If your absence was excused, work must be
made up within three days of returning to school.
CLUB AFFILIATION:
Students enrolled in business classes are strongly encouraged to join and actively participate in the Future Business
Leaders of America (FLBA). FBLA is career technical student organization (CTSO) that provides opportunities for
leadership and competition as well as service. Dues are $15.00; the deadline to join FBLA is Friday, February 7,
2014.
INDUSTRY CREDENTIALS:
Business Technology Applications is a prerequisite to the advanced class (Microsoft Specialist). Students enrolled in
Microsoft Specialist have the opportunity to earn Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certifications in Word, Excel,
Access and PowerPoint.
