Facilities Management H & S Induction Training Who should do the FM induction? Any person who1. Engages, organises, co-ordinates projects or procures any trade or service contractors on behalf of QUT, should complete this on line training program. 2. Is employed at QUT in a trade or technical capacity, should complete this training program. See details by groups (Page 3.) 3. Is a contractor or consultant at QUT providing services in a trade or technical capacity and who also further subcontracts work, then they and their key management /supervisory personnel and subcontractors should also do this online training before they commence work. 4. Is appointed as Principal Contractor. Why do you need to do it? 1. Induction training is a regulatory requirement for any construction work, and it makes good business sense that everyone understands the basic H & S requirements of QUT when working around campus. 2. H & S & E care underpins the daily functioning of Facility Management i.e.: to make the University a safe environment while it continues its core business - to be conducive to learning and research. 3. FM has safe work systems such as work permit systems and specific authority over particular items of plant or areas that you need to know about e.g.: hazard information ; pre-work arrangements, organising access , keys etc – all before starting work. Where is it available on-line and how do you get access? There are 3 ways to access the training. 1. The training is accessible via the FM website at http://www.fmd.qut.edu.au/. Click on link at the bottom of the FM page in the Quick Links box - at the right hand end. (see image below) 2. Enter: User name = qut Password = qut Contractors should log in and do the course in their own time, from their own computer or if they don’t have computer access, they should make arrangements with their QUT project co-ordinator or supervisor for access to a QUT Hot Desk or other. How long will it take? The course can take from @ 30- 40mins to complete, depending on existing knowledge and computer familiarity, although it is a very simple process. The session has an audio capability if preferred, but this can be turned off. Otherwise it is a simple reading, pointing with the mouse and look before pressing button for next screen. If the session can’t be completed in one go, it is possible to log out and return to complete the course at another time. It requires logging back in and using the Quick Find Index (upper right corner) to pick up previous place and continue. What is covered in this training? The course covers 4 sections that are specifically relevant to QUT Contractors, QUT trade, technical or project co-ordinator staff: 1. Working at the University 2. Hazards at the University 3. Environment/Sustainability 4. Emergency Information What happens next? At the end of the course is an on-line test of 20 multi choice questions, to test understanding. The questions are based on the course content only. These questions are randomly selected from a master bank of questions. The pass rate is 80 %. At the end, each participant is asked to enter information to enable the search function –including: their full name, their employer /contractor business name, New ! Contractor /consultant or staff status - Yes or NO. New ! Email address ( for reminder notification every 3 yrs) Work type ( drop down choice) and QUT supervising section - (All FM, IT or other sections) . New ! Free text field for additional information . New ! New Certificate view and print This additional information enables QUT to monitor the completion of induction training more accurately. Facilities Management –Document1 Issue date: 22-Mar-16 2 of 3 Facilities Management H & S Induction Training At the end of course, the trainee can print out their Induction Certificate and Induction Record Card (Wallet sized). This wallet sized card record should be kept on their person and the full certificate retained by the employer for training records. The induction is valid for 3 years from the date of the course completion. I can’t print out my certificate – what should I do? If you have problems printing out your certificate the first time, go back to the START page of the training program, and click on this button. This will bring up a list of frequently asked questions and a contact ELMO email template. DO NOT do the course again to just print your certificate. CONTRACTOR GROUPS- SPECIFIC INFORMATION - who should be inducted? Operations – All current standing offer contractors or others engaged to undertake work jobs and maintenance /repairs. This includes all contractors’ staff that are likely to physically work on site e.g.: plumbers, electrical contractors and their crews. All Operations staff who act as project co-ordinators, supervisors on work or minor works projects. Capital / Major Works – All QUT project co-ordinators and current external consultant project co-ordinators, speciality consultants, current appointed Principal Contractors (PC) and their key supervisors on Designated Construction Sites ( Note: it is the responsibility of the PC to ensure that all subcontractors used on a construction site are provided with appropriate information gained from this QUT induction; alternately they may instruct their subcontractors to complete the training course) ; and current building contractors used otherwise on other building or refurbishment projects. Campus Services All current contractors and QUT client services staff undertaking service based work – cleaning, grounds/landscaping. ITS – Communications Installations & Administration / Network Operations - All project co-ordinators/ managers , technical staff and contractors who do work which might impacts on FM physical building or grounds or the safety of general public, students or staff on campus. Other – Other University school or faculty technical staff where their work activities may impact on the physical building fabric or services may use the FM induction training for their own contractors or staff , in so far as it is relevant to their activity, to ensure that all contractors are aware of QUT expectations no matter where they operate. Delivery personnel Light delivery persons who come on site to restock dispensing machines, couriers and delivery of postal items or similar, are not required to do the training. This is based on an expected minimal risk to them or to QUT staff or students from their activities, their time on site and nature of work. However, persons on site to do a heavy delivery i.e.: to set up or operate items of Specified High Risk Plant e.g.: mobile cranes, should be instructed to complete this QUT course, where reasonably practicable.
