Library books are organized by the Library of Congress Call Numbers (LCCN),
located on the spine of each book.
•
Library of Congress classifies knowledge in basic 21 categories and then further
divides into sub categories. For e.g. The Fundamentals of Production Planning
and Control will fall under technology category. TS5176.C454 2006
•
TS5176 is sub category, C454 provides author information and 2006 provided
publication date.
•
The classification chart can be found in the Library, displayed on the side wall
of book stacks. Another chart on the same wall correlates the shelves to the
categories making it easy to locate material.

The classification chart can be found online at CalUMS.edu under general
holdings in the Library.
