Social Studies Grade 7 Mr. Huntington Room 700 Textbook- Exploring Our World- Western Hemisphere, Europe, and Russia - This book must be covered. Please use a paper bag to cover it. Once the book is in your possession you are responsible if the book is lost or damaged. - You will need your textbook in class every day, unless told otherwise by Mr. Huntington. Essential Questions The following are the essential questions that will explore in each of our main units of study. How does the geography of a region impact culture, government and economy? How do religious beliefs impact daily life? How does perception affect interactions between political systems? How do other cultures compare and contrast to those of the United States? How do current issues and events affect established cultures, governments, and economic systems? How do past events affect present day culture? Units of Study Unit 1- The Global Community - In this unit students will discuss globalization and the factors that have lead to the development of a worldwide culture. Unit 2- United States and Canada - In this unit students will compare and contrast geography, settlement patterns, culture and governments of the United States and Canada. Unit 3- Latin America - In this unit students will explore Latin America and how the blending of its diverse cultures has impacted its contemporary economic, cultural, and political development. Unit 4- Europe - In this unit students will discuss how Europe’s geography, diversity, historical movements and innovations shaped the development of government, industry, and society. Unit 5- Russia - In this unit students will investigate how political and social upheaval has resulted in changes that have occurred in government, economic systems, society and population throughout Russia’s history.
