… Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard?
All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: “Cursed is
everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” …
we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed.
Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law. You are
all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into
Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ…. If you belong to Christ, then you are
Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Forever with the Lord
Gounod
“Forever with the Lord!” Amen, so let it be! life from the dead is in that word ’tis immortality.
Here in the body pent, absent from Him I roam, yet nightly pitch my moving tent a day’s march nearer home
“Forever with the Lord!” Father if ‘tis Thy will, the promise of that faithful word, e’en here to me fulfill.
Be thou at my right hand, then can I never fail; uphold Thou me and I shall stand, fight, and I must prevail.
So when my latest breath shall rend the veil in twain, by death shall I escape from death, and life eternal gain.
Knowing as I am known, how shall I love that word, and oft repeat before the throne, “Forever with the Lord!”

Elder Fran McGowen
Leader: Shout with joy to God, all the earth!
All: Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious!
Leader: Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power
that your enemies cringe before you.
All: All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing
praise to your name.”
Leader: Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man’s
behalf!
All: He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on
foot— come, let us rejoice in him.
Leader: He rules forever by his power, his eyes watch the nations— let not the
rebellious rise up against him.
All: Praise our God, O peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard;
Leader: he has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping.
All:
For you, O God, tested us; you refined us like silver.
Leader: You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs.
All: You let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but
you brought us to a place of abundance.
Leader: I will come to your temple with burnt offerings and fulfill my vows to
you—
All:
Leader:
vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble.
I will sacrifice fat animals to you and an offering of rams; I will offer
bulls and goats.
All: Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has
done for me.
Leader: I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue.
All:
If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened;
Leader: but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer.
All: Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love
from me!

This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created. When the
LORD God made the earth and the heavens—
and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had
yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man
to work the ground,
but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground—
the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his
nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the
man he had formed.
And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were
pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life
and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four
headwaters.
The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where
there is gold.
(The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.)
The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.
The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Asshur. And the
fourth river is the Euphrates.
The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take
care of it.
And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the
garden;
but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you
eat of it you will surely die.”

Apostle’s Creed
All: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I
believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by
the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, He suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The
third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is
seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there He
will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of
sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Do you acknowledge your child’s need of the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ,
and the renewing grace of the Holy Spirit?
Do you claim God’s covenant promises in her behalf, and do you look in faith to
the Lord Jesus Christ for her salvation, as you do for your own?
Do you now unreservedly dedicate your child to God, and promise, in humble
reliance upon divine grace, that you will endeavor to set before her a godly
example, that you will pray with and for her, that you will teach her the
doctrines of our holy religion, and that you will strive, by all the means of God’s
appointment, to bring her up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord?
Do you as a congregation undertake the responsibility of assisting the parents in
the Christian nurture of this child?

Welcome
The Lord’s Day
Sunday, October 7, 2012
Rev. Mark G. Johnston, Senior Pastor
Welcome to Proclamation Presbyterian Church, a congregation committed to the
historic Christian faith. We believe that the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word
of God that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who became man, was crucified as
the atoning sacrifice for the sins of His people, on the third day was raised from the
dead, and one day will come again in power and great glory. Our goal is to glorify
God by teaching His Word and encouraging His people to be an engaging influence
to the culture.
If you are visiting with us, please sign your name and address on the Service of
Friendship pad so that we can greet you personally. We also encourage you to come
to the Welcome Counter in the narthex after the service. Here you can have your
questions answered, get help in finding your way around the buildings, and pick up
resources from the various ministries of the church.
During our worship time, please remember that we come to worship a Holy God
who gives us the grace to live for Him. Kindly turn all cell phones and pagers to
either the “off” or “vibrate” position during the service. While children of all ages
are warmly welcomed in our worship service, for your comfort and convenience, we
have a “crying room” for families with nursing infants and/or active babies located
in the right rear of the sanctuary. Children 7 years of age and younger are invited to
take part in Children’s Church. Also, there are large print Bibles and hearing assist
devices available in the narthex.

News
Pastor Dave Garner’s Evening Sermon Series
Many of us treat our faith as comparable to an IRA. We exercise faith now, but perceive the
benefits of our faith as deferred. This perception is in stark contrast to the teaching of the New
Testament, which points us to a risen, living, and interceding Christ. He is not in heaven sleeping
or twiddling his thumbs, but serves on our behalf personally and incessantly. What Jesus does for
you now might surprise you. It certainly will bless you.
Each Sunday night, starting tonight, October 7, and going through November 11, we will
discover afresh the pressing and precious value of our risen Christ for today. In this series, “What
(on earth, in heaven) is Jesus Doing Now?”, we will explore the vital ministry of the living Savior.
Our faith is not in vain – not tomorrow, not today. Why? Because He is the same yesterday, today,
and forever. Join us these Sunday evenings, and drink in the flow of Living Water.

Thank You
Dear PPC Family,
I am writing this on Ilse’s 8 week birthday, with her baptism upcoming this Sunday evening. It is
remarkable to think back across the journey on which God took us to arrive at this day. And it is
impossible to call this journey to mind without immediately remembering all the support and
encouragement this body of Christ gave us.
From bathing us in prayer, to providing transportation; from helping with childcare, to providing
us with meals; from enduring the sound of children playing with Pam’s ducks in the office, to the
showering of gifts, our family here at Proclamation has ministered to our spoken and unspoken
needs in such a tangible way that the love of Christ cannot help but be seen. And for this love, we
are truly and forever grateful.
There is so much else to say and be grateful for, I will save some of this for the Thanksgiving Eve
service, but for now please accept our heartfelt thanks and join with us in praising our ever
merciful Father, from whom all blessing flow.
Sincerely and In Christ,
The Mosers
