LOVE ONE ANOTHER
Pastor Chris
Sunday, August 16
IS THE
ROOT . . .
All other ONE ANOTHERS are the FRUIT!
“PARAKALEO”
BUILD UP – EDIFY – EXHORT – ADMONISH -- TEACH
‘En-courage’ is “BRINGING COURAGE” to the lives of believers
“One of the highest human duties is the duty of encouragement . . . it
is easy to laugh at men’s ideals; easy to pour cold water on their
enthusiasm; easy to discourage others. We have a Christian duty to
encourage one another. Many a time
a word of praise, thanks, appreciation,
or cheer has kept a man on his feet.
Blessed is the man who speaks
such a word.” William Barclay
You can practice faith and hope
when you’re alone,
but you can’t encourage others to love
and good deeds when you’re alone.
Vs. 25 “not forsaking our own assembling together”
• Believers TOGETHER
You can practice faith and hope when you’re alone,
but you can’t encourage others to love and good
deeds when you’re alone.
“NO
MAN IS AN ISLAND.”
1. A healthy body cares and encourages its own
2. Requires more than superficial knowledge
3. Eyes off self and make a deliberate effort to “see” others
Hebrews 3.13
But encourage one another daily,
as long as it is called “Today,” so that
none of you may be hardened by
sin’s deceitfulness.
“Lost people need direction.
Blind people need enlightening.
Stubborn people need prodding.”
Larry Crabb

ADMONISH
‘Noutheteo’
• To put in mind; caring warning against danger
• Advise or urge earnestly something to be avoided;
alert of consequences of actions
1 Thes. 5.14
(NASB)
We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the
fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
(NIV)
And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle
and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak,
be patient with everyone.
(NLT)
Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy.
Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who
are weak. Be patient with everyone.
WHO TO
• Admonish the Unruly
ADMONISH?
“do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.” 2 Thes. 3.15
• Encourage the Fainthearted
• Help the Weak
*Impediments or stumbling blocks of church growth
HOW TO
1. God’s Word
ADMONISH?
2. Personal Relationships
*Admonishment w/out God’s Word anoints
self as the ‘behavior police.’
HOW TO ADMONISH?
2 Tim. 3:16-17
“All scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for . . .”
Teaching:
What is right!
Reproof:
What is NOT right!
Correction:
How to GET right!
Training:
How to STAY right!
WHY TO ADMONISH?
“So that the man of God may be adequate and equipped
for every good work.”
Col. 1.28 “We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and
teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present
every man complete in Christ.”
(NLT) “We want to present them to God,
perfect in their relationship to Christ.”
2 Tim. 2.23
WARNING!
“Refuse foolish and ignorant speculations,”
Titus 3.9
“avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and
disputes about the Law, for they are
unprofitable & worthless.”
2 Tim. 2.24-25
RIGHT WAY!
Must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient
when wronged, 25 with gentleness correcting those who are in
opposition,
Acts 20.31
“Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for a
period of three years I did not cease to admonish each one with
tears.”
SO THAT . . .
2 Tim. 2.26 “so they may come to their senses and escape from the
snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.”
“The destructive effect of false teaching and sin numbs the
conscience, confuses the mind, erodes conviction, and
paralyzes the will.”
John MacArthur
LEARN TO ADMONISH?
Pastor’s job: “equip the saints for the work of ministry” Eph. 4.12
1 Thes. 5.12
Labor among you
Have charge over you
(Heb. 13.17 “keep watch over your souls…give an account”)
Give instruction to you

“NO
MAN IS AN ISLAND.”
“A healthy flock is characterized by growth in faith, love, and purity,
and progress toward likeness in Christ.
But spiritually needy and
problem sheep within the flock can and do impede its growth. That
means the healthy sheep must lovingly, patiently, but truthfully deal
with the difficult sheep to remove sinful impediments and ensure real
growth.
The key is not finding some clever strategy to bypass
troubles, but addressing the issues directly, as shepherds and sheep
alike admonish the wayward, encourage the worried, uphold the
weak, bear with the wearisome, and render goodness to the
wicked.”
John MacArthur
JAMES 5.19-20
19 My
brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and
one turns him back,
20 let
him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his
way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude
of sins.
