A healthy body cares and encourages its own 2. Requires more than superficial knowledge 3. Eyes off self and make a deliberate effort to “see” others Hebrews 3.13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. “Lost people need direction. (NIV) And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. (NLT) Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone. Reproof: What is NOT right! Correction: How to GET right! Training: How to STAY right! WHY TO ADMONISH? “So that the man of God may be adequate and equipped for every good work.” Col. 1.28 “We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ.” (NLT) “We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ.” 2 Tim. 2.23 WARNING! “Refuse foolish and ignorant speculations,” Titus 3.9 “avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable & worthless.” 2 Tim. 2.24-25 RIGHT WAY! Must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, 25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, Acts 20.31 “Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for a period of three years I did not cease to admonish each one with tears.” SO THAT . . . 2 Tim. 2.26 “so they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.” “The destructive effect of false teaching and sin numbs the conscience, confuses the mind, erodes conviction, and paralyzes the will.” John MacArthur LEARN TO ADMONISH?
