In the beginning God created the heavens and
the earth.

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished,
with all of their array. God had finished on the
seventh day, his work which he made, and he
ceased (šḇṯ) on the seventh day from all his
work which he had made. And God blessed the
seventh day and he hallowed it, for on it he
ceased (šḇṯ) from all his work which God
created by doing.

the number seven, creation, and the
tabernacle/temple
• tabernacle: “the LORD said to Moses” occurs seven
times. the first six concern building the tabernacle
(Exod. 25:1; 30:11, 17, 22, 34; 31:1), and the final is
a command to observe the sabbath (31:12).
• it took seven years to build the temple (1 kings 6:3738).
• the temple was dedicated during Sukkot, which occurs
in the seventh month, and lasts seven days (1 kings
8:2; cf. deut. 16:13-15).
• temple dedication + seven day feast + another sevenday feast (1 kings 8:65; 2 chron. 7:9)

was the father of all those who play the lyre
and pipe. As for Zillah, she also gave birth to
Tubal-cain, the forger of all implements of
bronze and iron; and the sister of Tubal-cain
was Naamah.
