Suite of electrical services and tools launched to the oil and gas sector Research shows operation and maintenance teams collaborating closer than ever with the supply chain to achieve greater efficiency and value creation A suite of electrical services and tools targeting electric motors, generators, variable-speed drives and low voltage and medium voltage switchgear for offshore platforms is launched by ABB. The suite focuses on key industry drivers including cost reduction, production efficiency and overall safety of electrical plant. The services and tools are launched following feedback from ABB-lead technical workshops, during which technical authorities were asked about their key focus for the next five years. Among the findings is a need for closer working relationships between operations and the supply chain in order to provide critical data, better informed decision making and deliver maximum upltime and plant availability. The objective is to accurately determine where cost efficiencies can be attained. “With an ever increasing pressure to reduce persons on board (POB), the offshore sector faces a greater requirement for more guaranteed equipment uptime,” claims Stuart Young, ABB’s UK sales manager for oil and gas. “Operators are looking for ways to save money and yet operate for longer and safer. This demands a better understanding as to when maintenance needs to be carried out; operators want to be made aware of potential abnormal situations arising in advance of them happening. “Predictive maintenance techniques can help determine whether critical equipment can continue to run safely for an extended period of time, in order to deliver maximum business value.” ABB’s range of services and tools will improve equipment reliability and support obsolescence issues in aging assets and have been tried and tested throughout many onshore industries. Among the electrical services offered are: HV Power Care Drive Care Motor Care Automation Care LV Power Care Each of the above offer bespoke contracts for the relevant product type, with three levels of support: Level 1 - Technical Rapid response contractual support options Training requirements for products Technical telephone support contracts Call-out response options Workshop repair agreement levels Annual support resource hours agreements Level 2 (Level 1 plus:) - Preventive Remote monitoring & diagnostics Application-based training Preventive maintenance schedules & kits Annual inspections of equipment & life cycle Page 1 of 3 Suite of services Recommended spares inventory Contract management reporting and KPIs Level 3 (Levels 1 & 2 plus:) - Complete Asset monitoring & condition based diagnostics Life cycle management of equipment Extension, upgrade & retrofit integrated Spare parts inventory optimisation Engineering & safety services Consulting & legislation compliance Each of the above services can draw upon a range of specialised tools or solutions developed by ABB, some of which include: Breaker Retrofit For instance HV and LV Power Care may harness Breaker Retrofit. Previously isolating a substation was a big and costly project. It resulted in lost production through the need to shut down the plant in order to re-new, test and commission the substation. Breaker Retrofit means that only one breaker or switch at a time needs to be isolated, thereby providing a staged shutdown. The service also applies to third party switchgear. By providing model numbers of competitor equipment, ABB can assess if a stock solution is available or if a tailored solution can be engineered. LEAP & MACHSENSE The Motor Care service can benefit from ABB’s life expectancy analysis programme (LEAP) or condition monitoring service, MACHSENSE. Operators want maximum uptime from their equipment so ABB’s range of condition monitoring solutions is paramount for predicting the healthcare status and remaining life of a machine or when maintenance is required. LEAP is a condition and lifetime assessment of stator windings for generators and large induction motors, the diagnostic tool of which gives a clear indication of how long a machine will run before failure, thereby enabling intelligent maintenance and asset replacement planning. MACHSENSE is a continuous remote condition monitoring service for motors and generators with key condition parameters. ABB InSight Used within Motor Care, the ABB InSight is a robotic crawler fitted with five cameras that scans the air gap in a motor or generator to visually inspect its status, thereby reducing equipment removal and downtime, inspection costs and risks of secondary damage by avoiding the need to withdraw the rotor. This avoids the expense of disconnecting large machines, replacing them with a hot spare and transferring them to the factory for testing. With ABB InSight the cost and time saving are immense as the test is done within hours, in-situ. Remote condition monitoring Drive Care can benefit from remote monitoring such as DriveMonitor; an intelligent monitoring and diagnostics system which allows secure access to a drive from any global location. Today remote monitoring is not just about spotting a problem but about predicting the problem, determining how devices operate within their current conditions and how they are interacting. More importantly it is about being able to repair the fault remotely. Life cycle management For all of its electrical products, ABB is promoting a four-stage life cycle management model, during which various services will or will not be available. The four-stages are “active”, the sales and manufacturing phase; “classic”, the guaranteed product and support phase; “limited”, the product is coming to the end of its useful life; “obsolete”, the product can no longer be supported. In conjunction with this model, ABB can undertake an installed base assessment which identifies - normally from a single line wiring diagram - the status of all equipment. From this a heat map can be devised which shows the items of Page 2 of 3 Suite of services 8/9/15 equipment most at risk and in need of an upgrade or retrofit. This procedure facilitates support planning, spares holding, obsolescence management and upgrade options. To assist in funding investments in new products and services, ABB is offering (subject to each case and terms and conditions) a scheme whereby repayment of the upgrade is made through a service contract, thereby avoiding a capital expenditure, while allowing acquisition of the equipment through operational costs. ABB is a supplier of power and automation products, systems, solutions and services to the oil, gas and chemicals industry, with a complete and integrated scope of supply capability that ranges from plant electrification to control, optimization and safety systems, smart field instrumentation, analyzers and telecommunications systems. ABB is active in all segments - onshore and offshore upstream, midstream and transportation, refining, petrochemicals and chemicals – with the aim is to boost the productivity and efficiency of the entire value chain. http://www.abb.com/oilandgas http://twitter.com/ABBoilandgas For more information please contact: Stuart Young Tel: 01224 592 123 Stuart.young@gb.abb.com www.abb..com/service ABB Limited Hareness Road Altens Industrial Estate Aberdeen AB12 3LE Note: For the associated image for this release, please see the data file details.
