It is the spirit and not the form of law that
keeps justice alive. ~Earl Warren
I am doing this Informative presentation the career of a
lawyer. I got interested in being a lawyer because I
watched a lot of movies and television shows and in
every one I watched the lawyers were always the best. I
watched a movie and something really bad happened to a
little girl and I told myself I would’ve never let that
happen if I was a lawyer. I really want to help people and
by being a lawyer I’m helping people the way that gives
me joy as well as who I’m helping. In order to get a better
understanding of my career as a lawyer I will be
researching nature of work, working conditions, training,
qualification and advancement, job outlook/employment,
and earnings.

Advise and represent clients in courts, before
government agencies, or in private legal matters

individuals and businesses

Lawyers work mostly in offices. However, some
travel to attend meetings with clients at various
locations, such as homes, hospitals, or prisons,
some lawyers gather evidence; others appear
before courts Lawyers who represent clients in
courts may face heavy pressure during trials
The law profession is 100% mental
The majority of lawyers work full time, and
many work long hours, lawyers who are in
private practice or those who work in large firms
often work long hours conducting research and
preparing or reviewing documents

Entry-Level Education :Becoming a lawyer usually takes 7 years of full-time study after
high school—4 years of undergraduate study followed by 3 years of law school. Most
states and jurisdictions require future lawyers to complete a juris doctor (J.D.) degree
from a law school
A bachelor’s degree is required for entry into most law schools, and courses in English,
public speaking, government, history, economics, and mathematics are useful.
†
Many law schools, particularly those approved by the ABA, also require applicants to
take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), a test that measures applicants’ aptitude for
the study of law
†
Becoming licensed as a lawyer is called being "admitted to the bar" and licensing exams
are called "bar exams“
†
Most states require that applicants graduate from an ABA-accredited law school, pass
one or more written bar exams, and be found by an admitting board to have the
character to represent and advise others, lawyers who want to practice in more than one
state must often take separate bar exams in each state
†
After graduation, lawyers must keep informed about legal developments that affect their
practices in 2011, 45 states required lawyers to participate in continuing legal education
either every year or every 3 years.
†
Newly hired attorneys usually start as associates and work with more experienced
lawyers or judges, after several years, some lawyers may be admitted to partnership and
become partial owners of the firm they work for, some lawyers go into practice for
themselves or move to the legal department of a large corporation

I want to go to NYU so I’m not sure where I want to work but
New York is an option I’m really considering it depends on where
my family is going to be around that time
I want to work in a law firm opposed to self-employment

Purple and white are NYU’s school colors

The median annual wage of lawyers was $112,760 in May 2010. The median
wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more
than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than
$54,130, and the top 10 percent earned more than $166,400.
I have a huge want list and I feel like this is an amount I can do most of what
I want, of course after I take care of my family and important people.

A Make Up Artist applies make up to a wide range of clients for a variety of purposes. A
Make Up Artist may work with fashion and photographic models, actors, television anchors
and guests, brides and other clients for special occasions.
Lawyers serve as both advocates and advisers. As advocates, they speak for their clients in court by
presenting supportive evidence. As advisers, they counsel their clients on their legal rights and
obligations. Lawyers also called attorneys and counselors, can interpret laws, apply laws to
specific situations, and draft new laws.
Much of their work involves researching precedents, which are earlier interpretations of laws and
the history of judicial decisions based on that law. Lawyers use precedents to support their
cases in court. Many resources from law libraries and public documents to computer databases
and the Internet are available to lawyers for research.
Many lawyers specialize. Criminal lawyers, for example, are hired by people facing prosecution for
crimes. Public defenders are employed by the government to represent people who cannot
afford to pay lawyers.
Some lawyers handle only civil cases, which do not involve criminal misconduct. For example,
divorce and damage suits fall under civil law. Labor law concerns disputes between
management and unionized workers, while patent law concerns disputes over the rights to
inventions. Real estate law controls the purchase, sale, rental, and development of land and
buildings. Some attorneys specialize in international law, the system of treaties and informal
agreements between nations.
