There is a current challenge around the impact of workload on GPs in practice and providing them with support to develop the resilience needed to stay in practice. The GP coaches trained via this pilot would offer coaching to their GP colleagues who may be struggling.
Programme Overview
This is a five day intensive programme that will be interactive and experiential, with learning underpinned by a firm evidence base and theoretical frameworks. Delegates will learn valuable coaching techniques including the Balance Wheel, and Meta-Mirror, along with practical sessions on how to implement these skills with ‘live’ coaching clients.
Delegates will come away with:
A clear understanding of the role of coach and mentor and the benefit to the individual, team, service and organisation
The ability to demonstrate and apply essential coaching/mentoring knowledge and skills to work with leaders and managers at all levels.
A toolkit of approaches and diagnostic tools.
An overview of how to evaluate the impact of coaching and mentoring on organisational performance.
The core part of the programme is not accredited, however further grants are available to support those that wish to complete the ILM level 5 accreditation process. As a guide, there is an additional approximate 100 hours required to complete the accreditation process (including practice, attendance on one day, taking part in group webinars and producing assignments -variable by provider).
Expectation on completion of the Programme
On completion of the programme, you will be contacted by your Local Delivery
Partner (in London this will be the London Leadership Academy ) to discuss the requirements for joining the local coaching register. The LDPs are established to provide coaching support in regions and they will provide accreditation advice and work to link you to peers and provide coaching support to develop the resilience to stay in practice. Your LDP is able to provide access to Supervision and CPD to support your development as a coach in line with best practice.

Benefits of Coaching
Research has found that people’s job performance is a function of their ability, their motivation to engage with their work, and the opportunity to deploy their ideas, abilities and knowledge effectively.
Coaching contributes to this by offering an opportunity to improve the motivation and skills of individuals, and to enhance their performance. Coaching can deliver this by:
Developing employee skills in line with organisational objectives
Engaging employees with their work, making them feel valued and fostering
Enhancing the commitment to the organisations
Promoting self-responsibility and initiative, and facilitating adaptation to new challenges and change
Accommodating and supporting employees’ obligations to their home lives so that they are productive and effective while they are at work.
By improving the performance of individuals, coaching should enable the organisation to achieve superior performance in terms of labour productivity, cost-effective investment in HR, quality, innovation and customer satisfaction. Coaching also helps to reduce isolation and to have access to a supportive person as a sounding board,
