Introduction
“Everyone has seen a hairbrush, but most people do not think about how the hair brush was
designed or what questions had to be answered to prepare the product for the consumer,” says
Mr. Halo as he speaks to his design team at Hair For You Company.
Mr. Halo continues, “I want to challenge you to design a hairbrush that uses all of the design
techniques you know and makes use of unique materials. Our company is counting on you to do a
superb job. Good Luck!”

Procedure
In this activity you will design a hair brush, sketch the hair brush in orthographic views including
appropriate measurements, sketch it using the 3D modeling software, and then create the
appropriate working drawings.
Your team’s hairbrush design must include the following design constraints:
 Have a maximum overall length of 6 inches
 Include special design traits, such as
o A hole for hanging that is either a counterbore or countersink
o An appropriate number of bristles
o Fillets or chamfers that add to the design
o Rounded edges for safety
 Be designed to be used by a male or female consumer
In order for you to know how to create the holes, counterbore, countersink, fillets, and rounds for this
project, you will follow the instructions of your teacher or complete the tutorials regarding these topics.

Be sure to include entries in your engineering notebook for every day that you work on this
project.
