Senior “Time-line”
SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER
 You will visit with your counselor to check your graduation status
including credits, GPA, online credit requirement, testing and
community service hours.
 Register for EDgenuity (E2020), and PBVS if you need to improve your
GPA or need more credits. (Remember you can only improve your GPA
with an A, B or C if replacing an “F”. The GPA will hardly change if you
get “C” for a class taken for the first time.
 Earn more community service hours. You need a minimum of 20 hours
for graduation requirements, but at least 75 hours for the Bright Futures
scholarship, as well as for other scholarships you may be eligible for.
 Take or re-take the ACT or SAT. Check your eligibility for free/reduced
lunch. Eligible students can qualify for test waivers. You can use up to 2
for each test. You may also qualify for up to 4 fee waivers for college
applications.
 Make sure that you have your scores sent to JILHS, our code is 100913.
 Send your scores to the potential colleges that you wish to attend. (Find
out what scores are required.) The PERT test may be an option if you
plan to attend Palm Beach State College. Test again if you need a higher
score. Most colleges will take the highest score within each test. The
new SAT may not give you that advantage, depending on the school you
choose to apply to.
 Athletes who plan to play a sport at a division I or II school need to apply
to the NCAA eligibility center at www.eligibilitycenter.org Athletes
please remember to only use PBVS or FLVS if need be, not EDgenuity

•Your college applications should be complete by Nov. 1 to maximize your
chances for admission, housing and scholarships.
•Request recommendations from teachers or counselors only if required
by the college or scholarship. Submit a detailed resume to them and
allow at least a week for the teacher or counselor to write your letter.
•If eligible, register for Spring Dual Enrollment. Make sure you have all
the qualifying scores and have attended or will attend a mandatory
advising session. Dual Enrollment ends when you graduate from high
school.
•Plan to complete your first semester with great grades so you can
qualify for Bright Futures scholarships and other available scholarships.
•Apply for Bright Futures Scholarships after December 1. Listen to
announcements for Bright Futures workshops during the week of exams.

•Study hard for exams and earn great grades!
January
•Apply for financial aid on January 2. Complete the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You will need to provide
your parent’s tax information. Do not delay! Even while in college you
will need to file a FAFSA every year to continue receiving scholarships and
financial aid.
•Retest for ACT or SAT if you need higher scores to qualify for
scholarships.
February-March-April
•Focus on grades and academics. Qualify for scholarships, Bright Futures
scholarship. Remember: though you may have been already accepted to
a college, they can rescind if your grades are not good.
•Continue to apply for scholarships!
•Prepare for your AP and AICE exams! Passing an exam may save you
time and money!
•Check FAFSA results! Contact your college Financial Aid Office regarding
questions about financial aid and payment options.
•Discuss college award letters with your parents/guardian. Award letters
explain the cost of attending a college that you have been accepted to.

Notify your counselor if you do not plan to participate in the graduation
ceremony
Notify the college you will attend by May 1rst. Notify other colleges
that accepted you that you will not be attending their school.
Clear all obligations! Seniors do not graduate with unpaid obligations.
Check your attendance with each teacher and prepare for semester 2
exams.
Attend Senior Check-out and all Senior activities. It is your
responsibility to understand all rules regarding activities.
