What’s Happening at the

Sunday’s Worship
November 8, 2015
November 8, Apple Pie and other Essentials, with Rev.
Dr. Tracy Sprowls and Friction Farm.
This morning we take a look at November’s theme:
“what does it mean to be a people of ancestry?” Since
it is the beginning of the month, we might as well
start at the beginning! Carl Sagan said “If you want
to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first
create the universe.”
With us this morning is Friction Farm (Aidan Quinn
and Christine Stay), a modern folk music duo
popular from Florida to Maine.

Appearing at
Family Worship 9:30 am
Worship 10:00
Modern folk duo Friction Farm is
guitarist/vocalist Aidan Quinn
and bassist/vocalist Christine
Stay. They combines storytelling
social commentary and humor to
create songs of everyday life, local
heroes and quirky observations.
From ballads, to anthems each
song is filled with harmony and
hope.

THEME EXERCISE FOR NOVEMBER
What does it mean to be a People of Ancestry?
Bring it Back
Being a people of ancestry means passing on traditions. And it doesn’t take much to notice that so
many family traditions are in danger of extinction. The recipe that was required at every Thanksgiving
but now no onebothers with. The outdated and supposedly tedious task of writing a handwritten letter.
Passing on a family heirloom. Bedtime stories. Family game night. Marking the height of your kids on
the kitchen doorway wall. Even sitting down at the dinner table to eat together. Slowly disappearing.
Maybe even already gone.
This exercise simply asks you to bring one of them back. Here’s your task, put simply: Dust off an
old, forgotten family tradition and protect it from extinction.

ATHEISTS, AGNOSTICS MEETING
• Monday, Nov. 16, 2015,7:30 pm Stevens Room
Topic? Letting Go of Our Fear of God-Facilitated by Melissa Logan
Too often, I hear from my fellow Atheists: I don't like the word (fill in the blank: prayer, worship,
spirituality, Trump, etc.)
Too often, genuine conversation about religion gets drowned out by "they" not wanting (insert your
progressive social issue here)
Too often, my Atheist friends' genuine feelings about not being heard come out as sounding antiwhoever and they are still not heard.
In the spirit of our October theme, letting go, how do we let go of our fear of God?
How do we let go of our negative reactions and anger at the religious?
How do we move from an angry tirade (out loud or just in our heads) when an acquaintance says
something steeped in religiosity, to really listening for the message?

Don’t forget to Sign the Plainfield Pledge on Sunday in the Parish Hall.
I BELIEVE that every person has worth as an individual.
•I BELIEVE that every person is entitled to dignity and respect, regardless of race, color, immigrant status,

harmful to me as well as others.
•Therefore from this day forward I WILL strive daily to eliminate racial prejudice from my thoughts and actions.
•I WILL discourage racial prejudice by others at every opportunity
•I WILL treat people with dignity and respect;
