A much more enjoyable read than other Darwin works. Short and a classic that any serious biology student should read
The illustrations are plentiful and marvelous and spaced throughout the book are letters and excerpts from Darwin's other writings.

Very interesting easy read if you like insects and spiders. Rather long, but the chapters stand alone so you can assign just part of the book.
Eisner provides simplified explanations of lots of different experiments he and his students have performed along with their meaning. My favorite is on the silk “writing” produced by some orb weaving spiders.

2001 is not only educational and informative, but also interesting. She is a remarkable story teller and each story is from the vantage of the scientists of that period and how their personal life intersected with the discoveries of the time. You can get a perspective of how science keeps building on past discoveries.

The author has retold history from the perspective of 17 groups of molecules and how important they were in the formation of civilization.
… start with the simple alloys (bronze) and gold and you can quickly appreciate the importance of some raw materials. It is when you add the influence of salt supplies, dyes, synthetic rubber, etc. that the stories become very interesting
