Development Goals This year at BCIT members of IronCorp want to learn to work effectively in a team setting by developing our skills during our group projects. In this semester IronCorp will strive to establish positive working relationships within our set and class by maintaining open communication lines within our team, set, peers and faculty. Recognizing and fostering our individual strengths and abilities within our group dynamic while embracing the learning and skill building process. This will make our team stronger, and also help us to be more rounded individuals, to prepare us for our future career aspirations. These goals will be measured through our Team Evaluation Criteria. (see page 10) Page | 4 IronCorp Team Charter ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Joe Schwartz Primary: Shaping Secondary: Coordinating Optional: Supporting As the Shaper I will help keep meetings on track by seeking patterns in discussions, and use my drive to activate the team into action and production. I hope to focus on some of the positive aspects of the Coordinator as well, to help focus group efforts and clarify the groups objectives. I will act as a good person to talk to, and maintain effective communication in the group. Kevin Cook Primary: Creating Secondary: Finishing Optional: Implementing/Supporting As the Creator my role is to bring ideas and originality to the projects and assignments we are working on. I will offer my ingenuity and imagination to ensure that we create an original project that is one of a kind and carefully thought-out. I will also offer different approaches to handling conflict situations as propose alternative solutions. I will adopt my secondary role as the Finisher to help ensure that all deadlines are met and that all projects are error free and thoroughly checked before submission. Page | 5 IronCorp Team Charter Katie Stevens Primary: Finishing Secondary: Implementing Optional: Supporting As the Finisher, my main focus will be to keep the team on task, and ensure that we finish all projects and assignments in a timely manner. I will combine this role with my secondary role of Supporter to implement schedules and team deadlines in order to complete our schedule ahead of time so we have a chance to review and revise if necessary. Jessica Allen Primary: Supporting Secondary: Shaping Optional: Implementing As a Supporter, I will strive to act as a positive sounding board for group ideas and the creative process, as well as contribute to the team by helping to shape and encourage my own and others' ideas. In addition, I hope to use my secondary Shaping role to help direct team focus and to positively influence the attitude of others. Page | 6 IronCorp Team Charter Trevor Boychuk Primary: Implementing Secondary: Finishing Optional: Coordinating As the Implementer, I will make every effort possible to keep the team on task and organized. Furthermore, I will create practical and achievable goals given the time allotted for each task and I will maintain and promote a strong work ethic. Brad Dube Primary: Creating Secondary: Implementing As a Creator, I commit to bring various innovative ideas to the table that will impact the evolution of my team. I am looking forward to encouraging our team’s development and success. Imaginative and fresh ideas are crucial to creating excellent presentations. Being an implementer, I will try to guide the team in the right direction to the best of my capabilities. I will make sure everyone is being as efficient as possible and turning ideas into practical actions. Furthermore, I intend to develop my skills constructively and to take into consideration all aspects of feedback from my team members. Page | 7 IronCorp Team Charter Petra Nekic Primary: Creating Secondary: Investigating As a Creator, I will bring a fresh and innovative approach to the ideas I develop for the team. Since the team is heavily weighted with Creators I will be taking on my secondary roll. As the Investigator, I plan to bring well-researched and critical information/ideas to the table. My goal is to deliver a clear understanding of potential ideas and possibilities. In essence, I will output good sensibility in collating information on market trends, designs, and key competitors. I will document examples, and showcase this to our group. Challenges to Team Roles The Creative Role is over represented in the score assessment for the team, but in a positive way. This over-representation means that there will be a wide range of ideas and innovation taking place in the group. We are not represented in the Evaluating Role. We can address this by understanding this particular role, and finding aspects of it that we can relate to and possibly adapt as our own. The key to overcoming the lack of representation in a certain role is to be as aware of it as possible. There is a general consensus that we will all fulfill each of the roles to one degree or another at some point over the semester. Roles may change as a result of the nature of the project, workload, and individual commitments simultaneously occurring with the project. Again, this rotation will not hinder the group if we expect, and are prepared for the changes. Page | 8 IronCorp Team Charter PROCESSES & GROUND RULES Ground Rules within IronCorp Team Communication The group will utilize various communications method in order to keep in touch such as Facebook, telephone and email communication. Expectations for Team Meetings There will be a different moderator for each meeting held. The moderator will be expected to control the flow of the meeting, take notes, and allow each member to share his/her opinion. The moderator will facilitate a five minute check-in at the beginning of each meeting. Each group member will act as a scribe on a rotational basis every meeting. This duty involves taking informal minutes and e-mailing the group a summary of that day’s meeting and projectrelated assignments. Everyone team member is expected to be in attendance at weekly 9:30 AM Monday meetings, unless group decides to cancel/reschedule meeting. All members are expected to attend other supplementary meetings. In group meetings/discussions there should be open communication; everyone is expected to be supportive of each other and give only constructive criticism. Progressive Discipline Process Our group will use a Progressive Corrective Discipline system regarding absence, tardiness, and poor behavior: 1) First strike is a verbal reminder, one on one with that week’s moderator or another member of the group. 2) The second warning is a written notice requiring the signature of the member in question. This document will include the warning outlining the problem and suggestions on how to avoid the situation in the future. 3) Third warning is also a written notice, outlining the violation of the team charter and the possible disciplinary actions to follow if the situation is not remedied. This third strike is the "last chance warning". 4) The fourth strike results in the loss of marks and possible removal from the group, decided only after consulting with the instructor and deliberating with the group. The written notices will be sent via email, in order to maintain records of all communication. A copy will also be provided to the instructor. The notice will contain the specific violation, what disciplinary action has been taken, including suggestions on improvement provided to the member in question. The notice will also include the group’s expectations for future behavior. Page | 9 IronCorp Team Charter Celebrating and Recognizing Success “Treating people as if they are creative, dependable, honest, hard-working, and enthusiastic could be the key to helping them become so.” –Anonymous. When it comes to celebrating success we believe in rewards for positive behaviour and the successful completion of tasks. We will celebrate depending on the situation. Distribution of Tasks Everyone is assigned an equal amount of project work, research and presentation preparation, however going above and beyond is accepted and encouraged. Exceptions can be arranged and agreed upon within the group to accommodate for conflicting schedules. Everyone is expected to know the task at hand that they are to perform. If not, group members can refer to informal minutes, or to that week’s moderator. Everyone is expected to communicate their progress for their work assignments in meetings. Scheduling and Deadlines Due date deadlines MUST be met by all group members. Individual group members must have work completed before deadlines or else face a consequence. Assignments must be completed with enough time to review prior to deadline for submission. Assignments will be prepared with the mindset that the deadlines cannot be altered or negotiated. Decision Making and Problem Solving Problem solving will involve round table discussions and decisions will be made by group consensus after being openly discussed. Disagreement and Conflicts If disagreements arise over group projects or procedures, there will be an open discussion of both arguments. Group will settle disagreement by a vote. If discussion and voting fails to resolve disagreement, group will attempt to make a compromise satisfactory to all members.
