Unit Essential Question: What makes a great story?
Key Questions within unit:
What Literary Terms do I need to know?
What genres Do I need to be familiar with during this unit?
What is a plot diagram? Can I identify its parts and apply it to a short story? Can I identify an author’s purpose?
How do I analyze plot and character? Can I make accurate predictions?
How many pages am I able to read during Silent Sustained Reading? How can I increase speed and comprehension?

How can I increase my vocabulary? What words have I learned during this unit? Can I make effective word choices? What
role do pre-fixes, suffixes, and roots play in increasing my vocabulary?
