School Video Coordinator Roles and Responsibilities
The School Video Coordinator (SVC) is the person responsible for facilitating and coordinating all activities to
ensure that teachers can utilize district-supplied cameras to support their reflective practice efforts in each
school. SVCs will be responsible for communicating and coordinating with the Manager of Teacher and Leader
Development and Support (Monica Jordan) to successfully facilitate camera use for the purposes of reflective
practice at the school level. SVCs will coordinate specific activities with teachers, including delivering
presentations on why and how to use the camera to facilitate reflective practice, keeping teachers informed of
acceptable use of video cameras, maintain records of parental consent for students, and scheduling,
delivering, and setting up the camera according to the schedule.
Our goal is to deliver high-quality of customer service while providing each school with a camera in order to
assist teachers to consistently utilize the cameras for effective reflective practice and observation activities.
SVCs are responsible for making sure that lists of students who do not have parental consent for being filmed
are communicated with all staff involved in creating captures with the camera.
To facilitate camera use (reflective practice) in your school, your responsibilities include:
Collaborating with teachers and administrators to ensure preparation for and proper usage
of cameras
1. Teachers must sign an informed consent contract to use the camera. The contract states that teachers
understand that no live teaching episode may be filmed without their consent. The School Video
Coordinator must keep these contracts for reference purposes.
2. The SVC should also schedule time in a faculty meeting to train teachers on the basics of using the
camera so that teachers can at least stop and start the video recording process. Details of this training
will be shared with the SVC in the form of a PowerPoint presentation with pictures, and the SVC may
demonstrate the process using the actual equipment.
3. The SVC and administrators should enforce district policy on camera usage and alert Monica Jordan
(jordanmw@tscsk12.org) of any activities that are questionable.
Coordinating parental notification and tracking parental refusals
SCS requires that parents of students are informed about the possible use of cameras in a teacher’s classroom
and have an opportunity to choose that their child not appear on film. The SCS Media Release Form covers this
informed written parental consent. Secure copies of Media Release forms of students whose parents do not consent
to their child being filmed. The SVC should create a roster by grade level of students who are not allowed to be
captured on video. This list should be kept with the camera as a reference for teachers who are using this
technology. The SVC will also be responsible for updating the roster as new students register for school. Please
keep all originals together in a secure location and keep a master list of students who do not have permission
to be filmed with the camera.
Because School Video Coordinators will be eligible to receive a stipend, the following
contract needs to be signed and sent via board mail to Monica Jordan at the Teaching and
Learning Academy. SVCs also need to keep copies on file for your records.
