Ms. Di Labio Italian Class Expectations Class Rules: 1) Be on time, every class. 2) Come prepared for class. 3) Keep your head and eyes forward. 4) Raise your hand to speak and to get out of your seat. 5) Respect yourself and others. 6) Leave ALL electronic device at home. If they are seen they will be taken away, locked up, and given back the next day. 7) No food or drinks, (No gum chewing!!!) 8) No restroom passes will be given during the first 10 and last 10 minutes of class. Homework: You have homework at least once a week. HW grade be lowered for every assignment missing or done incorrectly. Project: You have one project every nine week. Project grade be lowered for every assignment missing or done incorrectly. Notebook: Every student must have a soft 3- ring binder for our Italian class. It must include 3 dividers: 1) Bell Ring, 2) Grammar and vocabulary, 3) Class work. It will be graded at the end of every nine week period (class work grade). Tardy: Tardiness is unacceptable, if you are coming late from some other Teacher’s class, then make sure they give you a pass. If you are late without a pass, then you must go to the office to get tardy pass. Tests/quizzes: All tests and quizzes will be announced ahead of time. Grade grading: 4.0 – 3.5 = A 3.4 – 2.5 = B 2.4 – 1.5= C 1.4 – 1.0 = D 0.9 or ↓ = F Class grading: Exams 30% Quizzes 20% CW 20% Project 15% Participation 10% HW 5% Major Concepts/Content: Beginner and Italian 1 introduces students to the target language and it culture. The students will develop communicative skills in all 3 modes of communication and cross-cultural understanding. Emphasis is placed on proficient communication in the language. An introduction to reading and writing is also included as well as grammar, culture, connections, comparison, and communities. The purpose of this course is to enable students to begin to acquire proficiency in Italian language through a linguistic, communicative, and cultural approach learning. Italian 2 and 3 reinforces the fundamental skills acquired by the students in Italian 1 and 2. The course develops increased listening, speaking, and writing skills as well as cultural awareness. Specific content to be covered is a continuation of listening and oral skills acquired in Italian 1 and 2. Reading and writing receive more emphasis, while oral communication remains the primary objective. The cultural survey of the target language-speaking people continued. The purpose of this course is to enable students to begin to acquire proficiency in Italian language through a linguistic, communicative, and cultural approach to language learning. AP Italian Language and Culture. The primary objective of this course is to develop students’ proficiencies in the four modes of communication in the Intermediate to Pre-Advanced range as described by the ACTFL Performance Guidelines for K-12 Learners within a cultural frame of reference reflective of the richness of the Italian language and culture. The AP Italian Language and Culture course revolves around six course themes (Global Challenges, Science and Technology, Contemporary Life, Personal and Public Identities, Families and Communities and Beauty and Aesthetic) which integrate language, content and culture into an interrelated series of lessons and activities that promote the use of the target language in a variety of contexts.
