LOS VERBOS REFLEXIVOS Telling what people do for themselves A reflexive verb is one which the action is executed and received by the subject of the sentence. Since the subject receives the action of the verb, a reflexive pronoun is required. REFLEXIVE NOT REFLEXIVE • Mariana se baña. Mariana baña al perro. • Lucia se cepilla. Lucia cepilla al perro. REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS • Yo me miro I look at myself • Tú te miras You look at yourself • Él se mira He looks at himself • Nosotros nos miramos We look at ourselves • Ellos se miran They look at themselves **Reflexive pronouns are placed directly in front of the verb. If the verb is negative, no is placed directly in front of the reflexive pronoun.** • Yo me levanto temprano. • Yo no me levanto temprano. If someone or something other than the subject receives the action of the verb, no reflexive pronoun is required. • Juan lava el carro. • Joel despierta a su hermana. When you refer to parts of the body and articles of clothing, you often use the definite article, not the possessive adjective. • Me lavo el pelo. • Te cepillas los dientes. • El muchacho se pone los zapatos.
