Task
Complete the Olympic course on a two-man luge at speeds up to 40 miles
per hour and complete the course in 34 seconds or less to receive the next
clue.
The clue led them down a marked path in the Hakipuʻu Valley for the next
Roadblock, asking "Who wants to take a Papa Holua and an Ulu Maika?". The
team member who sat out the first Roadblock had to participate in
traditional Hawaiian games.
The Roadblock, asking "Who has the deep lungs and strong legs of a Royal
???". One team member had to dress in the uniform of the Royal ?? regiment
and learn to play a drone on a set of bagpipes while marching with the Royal
?? pipers in Gosford House's Marble Room for two minutes. When the
bagpipes instructor was pleased with their performance, he would award
them their next clue.
The clue instructed teams to find "The Thing With a Ring", leaving them to
figure out it referred to the Beacon of Hope sculpture in Thanksgiving Square
which had a clue for the Detour: Tray It or Spray it. In Tray It, teams had to go
to the drydock at Titanic Quarter where the RMS Titanic was built, where
they had to prepare and serve the ship's last five-course dinner to a group of
first-class passengers.
Detour clue: a choice of Spirit World and Natural World. In Spirit World,
teams made a traditional Aboriginal stone mosaic based on a model, and
then had to perform a dance that is traditionally done to honor ancestors on
top of the mosaic before receiving their clue from an Aboriginal elder. In
Natural World, teams made traditional Australian Aboriginal paintings by
spraying a mix of water and a clay-like pigment out of their mouths to make
four specific silhouette images on a piece of slate, before they could receive
their clue from an Aboriginal elder.
Country
Detour: Build it or Buggy It. In Build It, teams needed to find a scale model of
a watermill and use the materials provided to build a miniature working
watermill. They then got two buckets of water and proved their work by
filling the mill until receiving their next clue. In Buggy It, teams must
transport a traditional Amish buggy along a 1.5 miles (2.4 km) course with
two members pulling at the driver's seat and two members changing back
and forth while riding.
The clue sent teams to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct where they encountered
for the Roadblock, asking "Who gets a high water mark?". One team member
rode on one of Pontcysyllte Aqueduct's canal boats and worked with a
language instructor to learn a verse of the Welsh poem "Y Sipsi!".
Head to Mount Eden to find the next clue, the Roadblock that asked "Who
has an eye for detail?". One team member had to correctly match the tā
moko tattoo on a Māori warrior's face with one depicted in their clue,
amongst several hundred performing the traditional haka dance.
They were instructed to head next to the city of ??. Where they had to find a
Zebra Crossing made famous by The Beatles album cover upon arrival,
leaving them to figure out that the album Abbey Road and the location is at
the namesake street.
Teams then proceed where they received instructions and choose a donkey
and fill each of its baskets with 15 pieces of peat. Then, they had to walk the
donkey back to the entrance of the farm to receive their next clue, sending
them to the Pit Stop at Clifden's Connemara Heritage & History Centre.
