Students will learn vocabulary related to nature and its surroundings as well as to physics and mathematics Adjectives Adjectives They will then apply this knowledge and use it to get to know each other as well as discover new things about the stars and origins of the zodiac. In this workshop they will get worksheets from the teachers on constellations as well as Zodiac star signs. Students will form discussion groups and the teachers will guide the conversation and workshop to relate stars with local culture and others around the world. Workshop will take place at night in collaboration with the Physics teacher Teachers will prepare students prior to the excursion so that they are ready to work efficiently during the workshop Once the tour itself is done the students will have a quiz at school on what they have learnt during the workshop. Students will be told exactly what they need to take with them on the trip and they will have to participate actively during all activities. Poetry Workshop Activities prior to excursion: Teacher will introduce different forms of poetry to the students so that they have an idea on what poetry is They will listen to and recite different types of poems and learn new vocabulary and ideas related to poetry Teach students what tools to use when writing poetry (e.g. Metaphors, repetition, rhyme etc...) Activities during the excursion: Students will do a poetry workshop on the river Soča Workshop will take place outside on the river banks and teachers will give students information on what they have to do. The workshop will revolve around Ekphrastic poetry Students will be observing, listening and feeling the moment Teachers help students get in touch with these emotions and divide students into smaller groups to make the activities more efficient The Poetry will then be related to the area on the Soča River and together with the History teacher they will have a discussion on different historical topics related to the river (e.g. world war and life as a soldier) Teachers help students understand different cultures of the soldiers and aspects of the war that may influence their poetry Students will start writing their poems using the knowledge gained at school as well as information gathered from teachers and guides in Bovec Teachers help students understand different cultures of the soldiers and aspects of the war that may influence their poetry Activities after the excursion: Teachers organise a “Poetry evening” where parents and classmates are invited to listen to their poetry and maybe have an open discussion on the work produced During class students prepare an invitation for the “Poetry evening” Diary Workshop: Activities prior to excursion: - Students learn how to write a diary Students learn about different ways of reflection Students learn how to use informal language Students need to know that when retelling something, they have to use the past tense as well as chronological order Teachers prepare a writing template so students practice at school before they go on the excursion Students have a lesson that is based on war/soldiers (if enough time they watch a video as well, in English or History) - Students get some information on Hemmingway who was stationed near Kobarid during the war(during Slovene or English) - Students get information on the background of different nationalities involved in the war(History/English) Activities during the excursion: - Students start writing their diaries each evening( divided into two groups, Slovene and English) - The theme is that they have to write their diaries as a soldier during the war - Classes are divided into nationalities (Austrian, Italian, and Slovene) and write their diaries as soldiers from those respective countries - Teachers will check their work as it progresses and they hand in their diaries at the end of the excursion Activities after the excursion: - During the “Poetry evening” students can also recite some parts of their diaries as a foreign soldier living in such adverse conditions - Work done during the excursion will be included as part of evaluation for their yearly grade - Teachers will have a critical discussion with students on the main themes dealt with during the excursion such as the life of a soldier, loneliness, family, emotions, anger etc...) General activity after the excursion: Students will fill in a peer and individual evaluation form to know how they felt about their work individually as well as their group work
