Financial Aid Info

Students are encouraged to apply for financial aid using FAFSA on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov

.

Paper applications will not be available in the guidance office. To file a paper application, students may download a PDF FAFSA from www.FederalStudentAid.ed.gov

(click on ‘FAFSA

Filing Options’) and submit it by postal mail. Students without access to the internet may ask the financial aid office at their chosen college whether the school can submit the FAFSA on their behalf; or they may request a paper FAFSA from 1-800-433-3243.

In order to file your FAFSA online you will need a personal identification number (PIN), which you can now apply for online at www.pin.edu.gov

. Students and parents will both need separate pin’s to electronically sign the FAFSA form. Please note this PIN will be utilized throughout your child’s college career. Please take extra care to keep it in a secure location where you will be able to refer back to it year after year. If you need help by phone, call 1-800-433-3243.

Please note the deadline for filing your FAFSA is a March 10 th receipt deadline. This means your application must be received by the Federal processor on or before March 10, 2012 in order to be considered for any state aid.

Following the March 10 th deadline, if your student has any edits or corrections to make to their

FAFSA, these edits must be made by May 15, 2012 in order to stay in the state grant pool.

SSACI (State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana) will no longer use paper edit letters or award letters to communicate with students. (You will not receive anything via the mail. It will be sent to the email you list on your FAFSA.) SSACI will use emails to alert students of their eligibility or required edits. Beginning mid February it is the student’s ultimate responsibility to review their state grant file on eStudent ( www.ssaci.in.gov/estudent ) to know if there is anything they need to do before SSACI’s correction deadline of May 15, 2012 .

Sometimes colleges or universities require additional forms to apply for institutional aid.

Students will want to check with their college or university for any institutional aid deadlines or additional required forms.

Remember, filing a FAFSA is required in order to keep your scholarship if you are a 21 st Century

Scholar. Scholars must also have on file a completed affirmation form in order to keep your

3 award. If you are unsure if you have submitted your affirmation form, please see me as soon as possible or contact the Twenty First Century Scholars Office.

College Goal Sunday will be held Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 2:00pm local time. This is a free, state-wide event in which students and families can receive help filling out their 2012-2013
