Cultural Reflective Essay Outline
I.
Introduction
a. Attention Grabber (quotation, summary, anecdote, question, stat, etc)
b. Thesis Statement (topic + opinion/ revelation about the topic)
II.
Body Paragraph #1
a. How does your sense of cultural identity compare to that of your parents, your
peers, or even strangers?
b. Explain/ Elaborate
c. Provide an example
III.
Body Paragraph #2
a. How can a cultural conflict – either internal or external- clarify how a cultural
identity influences your perspective?
b. Explain/Elaborate
c. Provide an example
IV.
Body Paragraph #3
a. What are some elements of your cultural identity that your feel most define
who you are
b. Explain/Elaborate
c. Provide an example
V.
Conclusion
a. Restate thesis
b. Significance of your cultural identity/ cultural experiences
NOTES:
 Each body paragraph must be a minimum of 7 sentences. Introduction and
conclusion paragraphs must be a minimum of 3 sentences.
 Your thesis statement must reveal something about the topic of your cultural
identity (e.g. My cultural identity helps define who I am. My cultural identity is
rather complex. My cultural identity is multifaceted. My cultural identity is
comprised of many parts.)
 Please refer to the course syllabus, for typed assignment guidelines.
 This essay is due on Monday, December 7, 2015 at the beginning of class! Late essay
will lose points!
 You must include a Title Page with your name, date, period, and essay title.
 You must also have your thesis statement highlighted in your essay. No thesis
statement = an automatic zero!
