Course Syllabus Human Anatomy (Spring 2015) Bio 2134 Human Anatomy Call No 20198 Instructor: Dr. Paul Juen Office No: NEC 2111 Phone: 595-7517 Lecture : ONLINE Lab: 9-11:50 Thursday , Room NEC 2101 Office Hours: M W 9:30-12:30 M 12:30-4:30 Hardware Requirements: A minimum of a Pentium II with 64 MB of Memory and a modem with a minimum speed of 28.8 Kbps. Software Requirements: Either Microsoft PowerPoint, or a PowerPoint Viewer will be necessary to view the slide available in the course. Note: you must have ‘Microsoft Word” as Microsoft Works is not compatible with Blackboard. If you have not taken an internet course at TCC before, please go through the “online orientation” on the TCC website. Students without goggles and gloves will not be allowed to participate in the designated lab and forfeit all points associated with the exercise. Lab coats and aprons are recommended during some lab exercises but are not required. Goggles and gloves are available in the lab or for sale at the college bookstore or at local vendors. Catalog Description: A study of the structure of mammalian systems with special emphasis and correlation of the human body. Course Objectives: Mammalian Anatomy is intended for students interested in a career in either the heath fields or biological sciences. The systems approach is used in lecture to study the structure of the human body. The lab provides hands on study of the anatomy of mammals at both the macro and micro levels. Teaching Methods: . Read each Chapter and review the Power Points. An Outline of each Chapter, practice quizzes, web links and learning activities are all available. . There are: objectives, animations, self-assessment quizzes, flashcards and labeling exercises available in each chapter. . Preparation: Students should expect to spend a minimum of 7 hours for each lesson by reading the assigned pages from the text and participating in the exercises, performing lab experiments, and studying. Remember you are not alone out there in cyberspace. If you are confused and need help, you have classmates that you will meet in your laboratory and talk to in your discussion group. In addition you can email or call me, Dr. Juen at 595-7517. Lab: All lab projects are due each Thursday in the onsite lab at Northeast. Failure to participate or turn in work by the deadline will result in a 0 for all concerned. Proctored, Closed Resource, There are FOUR lecture examinations . Examinations must be completed by the stated deadline and must be taken in one continuous sitting. . All examinations will be administered at the Northeast TCC Testing Center. The NEC Testing Center is located in the Academic and administration Building The Telephone number is 595-8466. ADMISSION TO THE TESTING CENTER: 1. You must present a Photo ID prior to admission to any examination. A valid Oklahoma Drivers License is preferred so that your signature can be verified. 2. If you bring a child or children and no one is there to watch the children you will be turned away. 3. All cell phones and pagers must be turned OFF, not to silent, but off. 4. You should allow enough time to complete the test prior to the Center closing. For example, you will have two hours to complete the examination, but if you walk in at 7:15 pm on Monday, you will only have 45 minutes before the Testing Center closes! 5. You do not need to call for an appointment, but you should be aware that due to limited seating. You may have to wait 15-20 minutes, so try to be flexible with your schedule. 6. No personal belongings will be allowed in the testing center that includes: wallets, cell or car phones and car keys. These items will be placed in a locked locker while you are taking the examination. The four lecture examinations are scheduled with the NEC Testing Center. The hours for the NEC Testing Center are Thursday from 8:00a.m.-7:00p.m. NOTE : As a student you must earn an average of 60% or better in order to pass this course. Laboratory Examinations: Will be given on the onsite NEC lab. Due to the set up time and specimens there will be NO Makeup lab exams. On Line Quizzes Practice Quizzes and study instruments: Self quizzes, flashcards, labeling exercises are available with each chapter. IF the instructor is in a meeting or unavailable during this time- leave a message on the class discussion board and give your fellow classmates an opportunity to answer your question. Remember without facial expressions some contents may be taken the wrong way. Be careful in wording your communications. Use of emoticons (smiley faces, etc) might be helpful in some cases. . Use standard fonts . Do not send large attachments without permission. . Special formatting such as centering, audio messages, tables, html, etc. should be avoided unless necessary to complete an assignment or other communication.
