Frank Litsky, NY Times: Aikman, the Dallas Cowboys' 27-year-old quarterback, agreed yesterday
to an eight-year, $50 million contract that will make him the highest-paid player in professional
football history. The contract includes an immediate signing bonus of $11 million… It replaces
the last two years of Aikman's original contract, which would have paid him $1.17 million this
season and $1.37 million next season… The agreement calls for annual salaries of $2.5 million in
1993, $1.75 million in 1994, $4.15 million in 1995, $4.90 million in 1996, $5.25 million in 1997,
$6.2 million in 1998, $6.75 million in 1999 and $7.5 million in 2000… Yesterday was the final day
to rework existing contracts and include some of the money in a 1993 contract. Next year, for
the first time, N.F.L. teams must operate under a salary cap. For example, $1.33 million of
Aikman's $50 million was added to his 1993 salary and is thus exempt from the cap. The $11million signing bonus must be prorated over the course of the contract, so $1.375 million of that
is assigned to 1993 and also exempt from the cap.

Clarence E. Hill, Star-Telegram: it's six-year extension worth 54 million in new money. But the
kicker is that the deal includes the $3.1 he was scheduled to make this year. So he will make
roughly $57 million over the next seven seasons, including $18 million guaranteed, a source
said. But if you look at how the contract is being worked on paper it's really a uniquely
structured $57 million deal over the next seven years, the source said The deal includes no
signing bonus or option bonuses. All the money is tied to his yearly base salaries. And his base
salary will be a whopping $17 million in 2010, a source said, not the $3.1 he was scheduled to
make. Now he won't get all $17 million this season. $10 million will be paid in weekly checks
during the 17-week season with the other $7 million paid off in deferred payments over the next
two years. His base salary next season is $8.5 million with some of that also being deferred.
According to the source, Austin will take home roughly $18 million over the next two seasons
combined. His base salary in year in 2012 will be around $1.5 million.
Jason La Canfora, NFL.com: the deal includes $20 million in guaranteed money and a maximum
value of $54.1 million, including $18 million in 2010 and $25.5 million during the first two years.
Todd Archer, ESPN: Austin’s base will go from $8.54 million to $685,000 with $7.855 turned into
a signing bonus. His cap number will go from $8.54 million to $2.256 million, creating $6.284
million of room.

Beasley got a $4 million signing bonus, and his base salary for next season will be $1 million…
Beasley received a $1,500 signing bonus when he originally signed and made $570,000 last year.
Todd Archer, Dallas Morning News: The total numbers we have known: four years, $13.6 million

AdamJT13: He did not get a signing bonus, but he could get a $2 million option bonus this
season if we decide to pick up his option for 2013… If we don't pay him the option bonus, his
base salary for this season increases from $1.4 million to $2.5 million and becomes fully
guaranteed. The last two years of the contract are voidable (which might be why it was reported
as a three-year contract). He has a $100,000 workout bonus each season… If we don't exercise
the option, his base salaries in 2010, 2011 and 2012 increase by $400,000 each.

bonus and annual salaries of $600,000 and $700,000, plus playing-time incentives that could

Jean-Jacques Taylor, Dallas Morning News: The team recently extended 17-year veteran Ray
Donaldson's contract through the 1997 season, though he has given no indication he will play
beyond this season. Donaldson received a $500,000 signing bonus to lower his cap impact for
the 1996 season. If he retires after this season, he will still count against the season's Cowboys'
salary cap.
Jean-Jacques Taylor, Dallas Morning News: Donaldson could join his fourth team next year

Todd Archer, Dallas Morning News: They also re-signed center Andre Gurode to a one-year deal
worth $1.5 million, including a $500,000 signing bonus…
Todd Archer, Dallas Morning News: The numbers for the six-year, $30 million contract signed by
Andre Gurode recently are in. It is a straight deal. No roster bonuses. Just a signing bonus and
base salaries. So here's the breakdown: Signing bonus - $10 million Base salaries (cap figure)
2007 - $600,000 ($2.27 million cap figure) 2008 - $2 million ($3.67 mil) 2009 - $2.4 million ($4.07
mil) 2010 - $3 million (4.67 mil) 2011 - $5.5 million (7.17 mil) 2012 - $6.5 million (8.17 mil)…
Essentially, it's a four-year, $18 million deal with $12 million of the deal coming in the last two
years. However, with the cap expected to rise so high by the final two years of Gurode's deal,
the $5.5 mil and $6.5 mil base salaries could be a bargain if he is still playing well.

Tim McMahon, ESPN: McClain signed a nonguaranteed one-year, $700,000 contract when the
Cowboys acquired his rights from the Baltimore Ravens, a deal which will cost Dallas a sixthround pick in exchange for the Ravens' seventh-rounder.
Todd Archer, ESPN: As part of the one-year deal worth $3 million, McClain can earn up to $1.5
million in per-game roster bonuses… McClain can earn $93,750 for each week he is on the 46man game-day roster. Because he was on the 46-man roster for 14 games last year, only two of
the bonuses do not hit the cap currently, giving him a cap figure of $2.812 million. In addition to
his $750,000 base salary, McClain received a $500,000 signing bonus and can earn an extra
$250,000 in a workout bonus. McClain can earn $1 million in playing-time incentives. He can

Todd Archer, ESPN: If he fails to rush for 1,000 yards in either season, the base value of the
contract is $3 million. McFadden received a $200,000 signing bonus and will receive a $900,000
base salary in 2015 for a $1.15 million cap figure. He earns $9,375 for every game he is on the
46-man roster. In 2016, he will earn a base salary of $1.25 million and has per-game roster
bonuses that can earn him an extra $500,000. If he does not play in eight games in 2015, then
the max he could earn on those per-game bonuses in 2016 is $250,000. If he runs for 1,600
yards in back-to-back years, he will earn an extra $2.85 million. The closest in team history any
running back has come to that was in 1991 and 1992 when Emmitt Smith ran for 1,563 and
1,713 yards, respectively. If McFadden rushes for 1,000, 1,200, 1,350 or 1,600 yards in either
year, he can earn up to $2.1 million. He would earn an extra $750,000 with consecutive 1,600
yard seasons. Back-to-back 1,200-yard seasons would net him an extra $250,000, and back-toback 1,400-yard seasons would net him an extra $500,000.

$4 million salary and $3 million roster bonus in 2008.
Dallas Morning News: Owens agreed to a 4-year, $34 million extension Tuesday… Owens'
contract with the Cowboys calls for a $12.9 million signing bonus, according to the Morning
News. His base salary for 2008 is $830,000. He will earn $2.670 million with a $3.1 million roster
bonus in 2009, $7.5 million in 2010 and $7 million in 2011.
Todd Archer, Dallas Morning News: the Cowboys paid Owens a $12.9 million signing bonus as
part of a four-year, $36 million contract. Should the Cowboys cut Owens, he would count
$680,000 more against the '09 cap than the $8.99 million he is scheduled to count if he stays.
And because this is the last capped season, the Cowboys cannot spread out the hit over two
seasons like teams were able to do previously. This June, Owens is due a $3.1 million roster
bonus, so the Cowboys do not have to be in a rush to make a move.

Len Pasquarelli, ESPN: The Dallas Cowboys on Friday signed starting nose tackle Jay Ratliff, who
took over the position when veteran Jason Ferguson was injured in the opening game of the
year, to a five-year contract extension. The deal, first reported by The Dallas Morning News and
confirmed for ESPN.com by league sources, is worth $20.5 million and includes $8 million in
bonuses.
Details courtesy of Brian McIntyre, MacsFootballBlog.com
Andrew Brandt, NFP: The "new money" is $40 million over five addtional years for an $8 million
average per year (APY). Including the "old money", the deal is seven years for $48.625 million
for a $6.95 million APY. The contract has $18 million of guarantees, which represents the bulk
of the $18.625 million over the first three years. And Ratliff will pocket $11.625 million in 2011,
almost $8 million more than he was scheduled to make.

Todd Archer, Dallas Morning News: It is unlikely Romo will reach the $1 million incentive for
playing in 75 percent of the snaps [in 2006]. However, he could earn $750,000 for playing in 65
percent of the snaps, $500,000 for playing in 55 percent of the snaps or $250,000 for playing in
45 percent of the snaps. There are not any incentives in his contract for the 2006 season.
Mike Florio, PFT: He receives an $11.5 million signing bonus, a guaranteed base salary of $6
million in 2007 (up from a non-guaranteed $1.5 million under his current deal), a guaranteed
base salary of $6.5 million in 2008, a base salary in 2009 of $7 million, $6 million of which is
guaranteed, and non-guaranteed base salaries in 2010 through 2013 of $8.5 million, $9 million,
$9 million, and $11.5 million.
Nick Eatman, DallasCowboys.com: Romo restructured his contract to save the team cap room so
the Cowboys could sign CB Terence Newman and RB Marion Barber III. Romo received $12
million of his guaranteed money Tuesday, May 20, [2008] which will prorate over the life of his
contract.
Rainer Sabin, Dallas Morning News: the Cowboys restructured quarterback Tony Romo's
contract and cleared more than $6.5 million of salary cap room. Ninety percent of Romo's 2011
base salary of $9 million was converted into an $8.1 million roster bonus that will be prorated
over the length of the contract, which originally ran through 2013. Yet the Cowboys added
three years to his contract that will be voided if he remains with the team through 2013. By
doing so, the Cowboys will save $1.1 million in cap space annually.
Todd Archer, ESPN: Here’s the breakdown of Romo’s contract, not including the $25 million
signing bonus: 2013: $1.5 million base salary, $11.818 million cap figure 2014: $13.5 million base
salary, $21.773 million cap figure 2015: $17 million base salary, $25.273 million cap figure 2016:
$8.5 million base salary, $15.135 million cap figure 2017: $14 million base salary, $19 million cap
figure 2018: $19.5 million base salary, cap figure 2019: $20.5 million base salary, cap figure
Mike Florio, PFT: The $55 million in guaranteed money includes a whopping $40 million that is
fully guaranteed. (Again, $11.5 million of that already was guaranteed as a practical matter,
since that was his existing 2013 base salary.) The other $15 million is guaranteed for injury only.
Half becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2014 league year, and the other half
becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2015 league year.
Joel Corry, NFP: Romo is required to complete 90% of Dallas’ offseason workouts to prevent his
salary from de-escalating by $500,000 in that particular year.
Todd Archer, ESPN: The Cowboys will convert $12.5 million of Romo's $13.5 million base salary
into a signing bonus, dropping his salary-cap figure from $21.773 million to $11.773 million.

Tom Silverstein, Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel: Sanders' reported seven-year, $35 million contract
with Dallas is more like a three-year, $13.5 million deal… Sanders received a signing bonus of
$12.999 million and minimum-wage base salaries of $178,000 in his first three seasons… Here's
the year-by-year base salaries of the deal: $178,000 in '95, $178,000 in '96, $178,000 in '97, $5.2
million in '98, $6.25 million in '99, $5.0 million in 2000, and $5.0 million in 2001.
Len Pasquarelli, Atlanta Journal Constitution: The extension frees up $2 million as it reduces
Sanders' salary cap hit to $6.2 million for the '99 season. This leaves the Cowboys roughly $3
million under the cap with the start of training camp just five weeks away… The deal is
structured so Sanders' base salary of $10.5 million in 2000 appears in June instead of February
as it does with the vast majority of NFL contracts. This is significant because if Dallas cuts
Sanders, it would be able to spread the salary cap hit over three years instead of assuming the
entire blow in 2000… Sanders received a $2.5 million signing bonus Friday and will pick up a
roster bonus of $1 million in July. He will earn a base salary of $3 million in '99 and could add
another $1.5 million if he participates in 70 percent of the Cowboys' defensive snaps and makes
the Pro Bowl.
AP: This season, Sanders will receive a $3 million base salary, a $2.5 million signing bonus, which
leaves the team about $3 million under the 1999 salary cap, and a $1 million roster bonus on
July 1. He will earn $10.5 million for 2000, $13 million for 2001, $11.5 million for 2002 and $10
million for 2003, USA Today reported.

Len Pasquarelli, ESPN: The deal is worth $13 million, with $10 million in guaranteed money.
Mike Florio, PFT: The six-year deal, which runs through 2015, is worth $78 million, according to a
source. The source said Ware received $20 million Monday just for signing the deal and will
receive another $14 million in the first 12 months of the deal. He will be paid $6 million in the
second year and $5 million in the third, the source said.
Josh Ellis, True Blue Blog: Ware's deal basically has two halves - the first three years in which he
will make an average of $15 annually, and a very doable back half in which he will average $11
million a year, which by then will seem like a great value, assuming Ware's excellent play
continues.
Todd Archer, Dallas Morning News: It turns out the Cowboys and Ware agreed to a six-year
contract extension Sunday afternoon. And on Monday afternoon, they signed the $78 million
deal that includes a franchise-record $40 million in guaranteed money. Ware received a $20
million signing bonus, and the Cowboys added $5 million to his $1 million 2009 base salary. Over
the first 12 months of the contract, he will receive $34 million. He will earn $40 million over the
first two years and $45 million over the first three.
Andrew Brandt, NFP: Salaries 2009: $6M ($5.59M guaranteed) 2010: $7.8M (all guaranteed)
2011: $6.7M ($6.61M guaranteed) ... Offseason Workout Bonus: $500,000 per season 20112015
Todd Archer, ESPN: Ware was scheduled to earn a $6.7 million base salary in 2011, but that will
be knocked down to $810,000 and the remainder ($5.89 million) will go into his pocket now as a
signing bonus. Ware’s cap number will go from $11.348 million to $5.988 million, creating $5.36
million in cap space.
Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas: Ware was scheduled to count $10.301 million, but after lowering his
base salary to $825,000 and turning the difference into signing bonus the All-Pro outside
linebacker will count $7.546 million against the cap this year.
David Moore, Dallas Morning News: Ware has tacked two years onto his contract and had a
signing bonus rolled into the upcoming season. The maneuver puts $5 million into Ware’s bank
account while saving the Cowboys close to $4 million on the books in 2013.
Chris Warren
Jean-Jaques Taylor, Dallas Morning News: Warren signed a three-year contract worth $2 million,
including a $600,000 signing bonus, Monday.

player (and his agent) look better, we’re told that the contract signed last week by Cowboys
receiver Roy Williams contained not $27 million in guaranteed money, but only (only?) $19.5
million. The difference in this one lies in the details. If an option bonus isn’t exercised, there’s a
mandatory payment that pushes the guaranteed money to $27 million. If the option bonus is
exercised, the guaranteed money drops to $19.5 million.
Nick Eatman, DallasCowboys.com: Williams now has a six-year, $47.4 million extension that runs
through the 2013 season that includes $27 million in guaranteed money. Williams will receive
all of that $27 million over the next two calendar years, including a $10 million option bonus
next March and another $9.5 million the following March.
Joel Corry, NFP: Even though Williams and Barber haven’t played for the Cowboys since the
2010 season, they are currently counting $8.75 million and $4 million, respectively, towards
Dallas’ cap.

Jean-Jacques Taylor, Dallas Morning News: Witten, selected in the third round, received a fouryear deal that includes a $670,000 signing bonus. The deal voids to three years, if Witten
achieves certain incentives.

Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas: the deal is worth $37 million and includes $19 million guaranteed.
David Moore, Dallas Morning News: Ware has tacked two years onto his contract and had a
signing bonus rolled into the upcoming season. The maneuver puts $5 million into Ware’s bank
account while saving the Cowboys close to $4 million on the books in 2013.
Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas: the Cowboys converted $4.56 million of Witten's $5.5 million 2013
base salary into a signing bonus to save roughly $3.65 million against the cap.
