2014-2016 voidable added
Adam Schefter, ESPN: Jon Beason and Panthers have agreed on 5-year extension for $50 million
with $25 milion guarantee…
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: It’s a five-year extension for a player who already was under contract for
this season. Beason’s deal now runs through 2016 and could be worth up to $51.6 million.
Beason’s base salary for this season is $1.04 million, but he got a $20 million signing bonus. In
2012, his base salary will be $1.25 million and he has a $250,000 workout bonus for every year
on his contract after this one. In 2013, Beason’s base will jump to $5.25 million. In 2014, he’s
scheduled to make $6.5 million. Beason is scheduled to earn $7.5 million in 2015 and $8.5
million in 2016.
Darin Gantt: Beason's third-year bonus payment of $2.552 million will be treated as a signing
bonus (which the Panthers could get back if Beason holds out or defaults on his contract) since
they wrote it as part of a a "superseding contract." In essence, it stands as the first renegotiation of the deal, since the contract is built on the assumption the bonus will be paid.
Under the terms of the deal, Beason's second bonus would kick in the day after the 2008 season
(rookie deals can't be re-done before then), provided Beason plays either 35 percent of the
defensive snaps this year or 45 percent in 2008. In fact, if he hits the mark this season, he'd get a
$500,000 escalator to next year's $370,000 base salary, and the 2009 payment would be $2.052
million.
That would go along with the $3 million signing bonus he received earlier this month, plus a
$242,500 guaranteed roster bonus in 2008.
Assuming he triggers the bonus, and barring injury, that should happen, Beason stands to
pocket roughly $4.6 million the first two years, and $7.5 million the first three years if he
reaches some reasonable playing-time incentives.
Once the Panthers pay the 2009 bonus, the contract stipulates that Beason's base salaries would
drop to $650,000 in 2009, $708,800 in 2010 and $745,000 in 2011, or a total of $467,800 less
than the original bases listed for those years ($735,000, $857,500 and $980,000).
Beason's deal also includes a number of sweeteners beginning in 2009 which are based on his
playing time, and the expectation of him becoming a starter.
Beason's 2009 base salary will go up $100,000 if he plays 60 percent of the defensive snaps in
one year, $150,000 for 75 percent of the snaps and $200,000 for 85 percent. Since that clause
covers each of the first two years, he could make an extra $400,000 in base salary in 2009 if he's
a full-time player his first two seasons.
The same breakdowns apply to subsequent years, meaning he could add up to $600,000 to his
2010 earnings and $800,000 to his 2011 base salaries if he plays 85 percent of the defensive
snaps each year.
If he gets to 85 percent each of the first four years of his deal, that could net him an extra $1.8
million over the third through fifth years of the deal. Even at the 60 percent level, he could add
another $900,000.
Beason can also earn escalators if he makes the Pro Bowl: $50,000 for one, $100,000 for the
second, $200,000 if he makes three and $250,000 if he makes four trips to Hawaii.
Aaron Wilson, NFP: His salary for this season was reduced from $5.25 million to a $1 million
salary fully guaranteed for skill, injury and cap. The deal also includes a $500,000 roster bonus
due today as well as a $250,000 workout bonus, a $1.75 million per game roster bonus paid
$109,375 per game active and a $500,000 Pro Bowl bonus.

Charles Chandler, Hamilton Spectator: Collins, the fifth pick, received a $7-million signing bonus
Collins essentially signed two contracts in one -- a six-year, $21.6-million deal with a "buy-back"
option for the Panthers and a seven-year, $23.180-million package that's never intended to be
used. The contract is designed for Collins to play three years, meet some easy playing time and
statistical standards and then have the seven-year part of the deal voided out. Carolina would
then would have the option of "buying back" another three years with a signing bonus of $6
million, thus activating the six-year deal.

Len Pasquarelli, ESPN: The former University of Georgia star will sign a five-year contract worth
$10.6 million, and the deal includes $7.97 million in guaranteed money.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: Under an obscure rule that existed only in the 2010 uncapped year, Davis’
contract for last season rolled over to this season because he spent all of last year on the
physically-unable-to-perform list… The Panthers renegotiated Davis’ base salary this year down
to $1 million, but they gave him a $7 million signing bonus right up front. That brings Davis’ cap
figure down to $2.4 million for this year, after it originally was scheduled to be $3.8 million…. If
he struggles, Davis probably won’t be with the Panthers next season. That’s because his deal
includes an $8 million option bonus for 2012. If the Panthers pay that bonus, they’ll also be
paying bigger salaries to Davis down the road. His 2012 base salary is $2.25 million and it jumps
to $4.25 million in 2013. The base figure jumps to $5.75 million in 2014 and $7.25 million in
2015.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: Davis’ deal has been restructured to free up $3.8 million in salary-cap
space. The Panthers chose not to exercise an $8 million option bonus that was due this week…
Davis’ cap figure for 2012 is now a comfortable $2.1 million. In addition to not getting the
bonus, Davis took a cut in base salary from $2.25 million to $700,000 for this season. But Davis
can recoup some of the money later in the contract that runs through 2015. He has a $500,000
option bonus in 2013, and a $2.5 million second option in 2014. His new base salaries rise
steadily each season. If he’s still with the team in 2015, his base salary will be $7.25 million.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: By staying on the 53-man roster all this season, Davis has hit a $1 million
escalator clause in his contract. Davis had been scheduled to earn $1 million in base salary in
2013, but that number now jumps to $2 million.
Brian McIntyre, Yahoo Sports: Davis, who turns 30 in March, is scheduled to earn $5.5 million
from the Panthers, a sum largely comprised of "per game" roster bonuses totaling $3 million.
Joe Person, Charlotte Observer: Davis received a $5 million bonus for signing the $16.5 million
contract -- a figure that includes $1 million salaries for each of the three voidable seasons from
2016-2018. Davis' base salary this year decreases from $2.75 million to the veteran's minimum
of $950,000. Davis' cap number dips from $6.82 million to $3.57 million for a savings of $3.25
million. Davis' base jumps to $7.5 million in 2014, with a cap figure of $10 million.

Pat Yasinskas: Delhomme restructured his contract to open $4 million in [2007] salary cap space.
Steve Reed: The Carolina Panthers have given starting quarterback Jake Delhomme a five-year
contract extension, the team announced Thursday. The deal is worth $42.5 million with $20
million guaranteed, according to a source.
Charles Chandler: Delhomme's was scheduled to count nearly $11.1 million against the '09 cap
before the extension, but now counts $8.591 million. His numbers are relatively cap-friendly for
a starting quarterback in subsequent years -- $4.785 million in 2010, $5.745 million in 2011,
$6.705 million in 2012, $7.665 million in 2013, and $8 million in 2014.
Darin Gantt, Rock Hill Herald: A five-year extension which would carry him through the 2014
season, it was originally reported as a $42.5 million deal, with $20 million in guarantees... In
practical terms, Delhomme signed a deal which will pay him $25.5 million the first three years...
Delhomme was scheduled to make $6.3 million this season, the last of his old contract. So with
the extension, they turned that into a $3.125 million signing bonus and a base salary of $3.2
million. The only true new money in the deal is $14.3 million in 2010, when the deal gets a little
complicated.
There's an option bonus of $12.675 million on the books, though there's little chance the
Panthers will pay it. Because option bonuses can't be recouped if the player defaults for any
reason, the Panthers are philosophically opposed to them. To get around them, they have been
writing “superseding contracts,” which replace the option bonus with signing bonuses (which
can be prorated for salary cap purposes), and change the base salaries involved. They began
using that instrument in 2007 with Jon Beason's contract, and have used it with each large deal
since.
So while NFLPA records show Delhomme earning base salaries of $1.625 million, $1.74 million
and $2.7 million in 2010 through 2012, those will become bigger numbers when the signing
bonus is paid.
He'll receive that signing bonus of $10.14 million in 2010, making his base salary $4.16 million.
In 2011 and 2012, his base salaries jump to just over $5 million and $6 million, respectively,
before they hit another bump in the last two years which make them largely moot. A second
option bonus in 2011 ($3.38 million) will go away when the 2010 signing bonus is paid.
Andrew Brandt, NFP: The contract provides for guaranteed salaries in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and
ensures payment to Delhomme, even if he’s terminated (his contract, not him) prior to 2010, for
the following amounts totaling $12.675M: 2010: $4.16M 2011: $5.12M 2012: $3.395M So
Delhomme had $12.675M of protection no matter what the circumstances after 2009.
The $4.16M for 2010 will be paid out as it was scheduled this season. The remaining guarantee
of $8.515M will be paid out on March 1, 2011, for the present value of that money according to
the one-year treasury note rate published in the Wall Street Journal on Feb. 1 next year.

Darin Gannt, The Herald: Gilbert will make $11 million this season in salary and bonuses, a large
portion of his seven-year, $46.5 million contract. For contrast, the Miami Herald story pointed
out that the Dolphins' entire starting defense had a salary-cap value of $10.9 million. The
comparison is a bit misleading. Gilbert's cap number is around $3 million this season because of
the way the contract is structured.
Peter King, Sports Illustrated: The Carolina Panthers outlasted all other bidders and gave Gilbert
the richest contract for a defensive player in NFL history, a seven-year, $45.4 million deal. The
total dollars and $10 million signing bonus were nearly identical to what the Green Bay Packers
had given three-time league MVP Brett Favre nine months earlier, and the Panthers had to send
the Washington Redskins first-round draft choices in '99 and 2000 as compensation for signing
Gilbert, the Redskins' franchise player. While Gilbert gets $10.7 million this season in bonus and

$1.2 million to $600,000. Godfrey also is scheduled to earn a $5 million option bonus in 2012
when his base salary will be $700,000. His base salary starts to climb significantly in 2013 when
it goes to $1.6 million. But the real jump comes after that. In 2014 and 2015, Godfrey will have
a $5 million base salary for each season. In 2016, his salary rises to $5.5 million. The deal also
includes a $100,000 workout bonus for each year, starting in 2012. Godfrey also will receive a
$100,000 bonus in any season that he makes the Pro Bowl.
David Newton/Field Yates, ESPN: Godfrey's base salary was reduced from $5 million to $750,000
with the possibility to make up to $1.7 million in roster bonuses of $106,250 per game.

Adam Schefter, NFL.com: the Carolina Panthers have agreed to terms with OT Jordan Gross on a
six-year deal worth just under $60 million, according to a source. Gross will be paid $30.5 million
in the first three years on the contract.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: $10 million [cap charge in 2011]
Brian McIntyre, Yahoo Sports: Gross lowered his base salary to $1 million, which is fully
guaranteed, and a $4.5 million signing bonus, of which $3 million will be paid immediately with
the remaining $1.5 million deferred until next April. Gross had been signed through the 2014
season and his $6.7 million salary was lowered to $1 million. To maximize the proration on
Gross' signing bonus, three additional seasons were tacked onto the deal. However, if Gross is
on the roster five days after Super Bowl XLVIII, his contract will automatically void, making him
an unrestricted free agent once the 2014 league year begins. The new deal lowers Gross' cap
number this season to $4.9 million, a cap savings of $6.8 million. On the flipside, because Gross'
contract will void, he will count $5.6 million against the Panthers' 2014 salary cap.

Darin Gantt, Charlotte Herald: Johnson signed a four-year deal worth $2.375 million, with a
$710,000 signing bonus. There's an escalator built into the deal which would take his final year
base salary from $550,000 to $1.2 million if he hits certain attainable playing time incentives.
Mike Florio, PFT: The Panthers’ front office and Johnson’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, have worked
out a six-year, $76 million deal with $32 million guaranteed, including a $30 million signing
bonus.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: It’s for six years and could be worth up to $76 million. It includes a $30
million signing bonus and a guaranteed $4 million base salary for this season. In short, Johnson’s
hauling in $34 million this year. In 2012, Johnson’s base salary will increase to $4.75 million and
$2 million of that becomes guaranteed if he’s on the roster on Feb. 15, 2012, which seems a
certainty. Johnson also is scheduled to earn a $250,000 bonus for taking part in offseason
workouts in 2012 and for each of the remaining years on his deal. In 2013, Johnson’s base salary
jumps to $6.75 million. In 2014, it goes to $8.75 million. In 2015, Johnson is scheduled to earn
$9.75 million. The final year of the deal is 2016 and Johnson is scheduled to earn $10.75 million.
Brian McIntyre, MacsFootballBlog.com: In exchange for lowering his base salary Johnson
received a $5.68 million signing bonus which will be prorated over the next four seasons (201316). The move lowered Johnson's cap number this season to $8.74 million a cap savings this year
of $4.26 million.
Joseph Person, Charlotte Observer: It’s a standard restructuring that drops Johnson’s base salary
to $950,000 and converts the remaining $7.8 million to a signing bonus that is prorated over the
final three years of the contract…

deal, which is a five-year extension on top of the tender year, drops Kalil’s cap figure to $4.6
million for this season… his $8.186 million average per year over six years makes him the
highest-paid center in league history. The deal included an $18 million signing bonus with a $1
million base salary for this season. Kalil also is scheduled to receive a $5 million option bonus in
2013. His base salary for 2012 is $1.5 million and it jumps to $4.75 million in 2013 and stays at
that same rate in 2014. In 2015, the base jumps to $5.366 million and rises to $7.5 million in
2016. The deal also includes a workout bonus for each offseason bonus starting next year.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: Kalil was given a $5 million signing bonus, but his base salary was dropped
from $4.75 million to $750,000. His cap figured dropped from $8.6 million to $6.4 million.
Brian McIntyre: Kalil did restructure his contract. $4.75M base salary reduced to $855k,

PFT: According to Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald, the Panthers have restructured the
contract of defensive tackle Damione Lewis, creating $2 million in cap space. The money was
freed up by tinkering with a $2.5 million roster bonus owed to Lewis in the near future, and by
reducing his base salaries in 2009 and 2010. This year, his base pay has been cut from $3.17

hold the option on making it happen. If the Panthers elect to exercise the option, they'll have to
pay a $250,000 roster bonus and a second signing bonus of $2.7 million, and Lewis' base salary
would escalate to $1.5 million next season, $3 million in 2001 and $3.75 million in 2002.

Charles Chandler, Charlotte Observer: Mills, a four-time Pro Bowl linebacker, had before him

$500,000 signing bonus, with base salaries of $1 million in 1995 and $1.3 million in '96.
Scott Fowler, Charlotte Observer: the 37-year-old inside linebacker signed a $4-million, two-year

Scott Michaux, Greensboro News Record: The Carolina Panthers retained the last piece of its
offensive puzzle, signing Pro Bowler Muhsin Muhammad to a five-year, $22.5 million contract
on Thursday that makes him one of the five highest paid receivers in the NFL. Muhammad vaults
from the lowest to the highest paid player on the Panthers' offense. His deal, which includes a
$7 million signing bonus, averages $4.5 million a year.
Len Pasquarelli, ESPN: Muhammad agreed to reduce his base salary for 2004 to $660,000, the
league minimum for a player of his seniority. The Panthers then guaranteed the difference,
$3.74 million, in a signing bonus. By adding an extension year to the deal Carolina created the
cap savings. It is doubtful, barring another restructuring, that the eight-year veteran will be on
the roster in '05 to play out the extension, which carries a base salary of $665,000… the
Panthers must pay Muhammad a roster bonus of $10 million in March to retain his services.
With that exorbitant bonus, the salary cap charge for Muhammad in 2005 skyrockets to $12.53
million…

Aaron Wilson, Scout.com: It's $4.8 million, max of $5.5 million with $1.3 million guaranteed…
Joseph Person, Charlotte Observer: It's a pretty straightforward, 3-year deal worth $4.8 million,
which includes a $1 million signing bonus. Nakamura, expected to compete with Sherrod Martin
for the free safety spot as well contribute to special teams, has a $700,000 base salary in 2012
with a cap figure of $1.03 million. His base jumps to $1.3 million in 2013 and $1.8 million in
2014, with an escalator that could increase his 2014 base by $700,000 if he hits certain playing
time and/or performance criteria.
Brian McIntyre, Yahoo Sports: Originally scheduled to earn $1.3 million in non-guaranteed base
salary this season, Nakamura will now earn $815,000 in total cash compensation if he makes the
Panthers' 53-man roster. As part of the restructured contract, Nakamura received a $65,000
signing bonus, which is the only portion of the new deal that is guaranteed, and could earn a
$35,000 workout bonus this offseason. Nakamura is scheduled to earn $715,000 in base salary
with an additional $300,000 in available playing-time incentives. The new contract lowers
Nakamura's cap hit by $517,500 with the trade-off being that the 2014 year in his contract,
which saw his $1.8 million base salary reduced to $730,000, will void if Nakamura is on the
roster five days after Super Bowl XLVIII, making him eligible for free agency next offseason.

Brad Biggs, Chicago Tribune: Bears traded Olsen to the Panthers for a third-round draft pick… in
the 2012 draft.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: Olsen was in the last year of his contract when he came from Chicago and
was to make $900,000 in base salary. In the new deal, the Panthers knocked that figure down to
$700,000. They also gave Olsen a $2.5 million signing bonus and added four years to his
contract. His cap figure for this year is $1.2 million. The average per year of the new deal is $5.7
million. In 2012, Olsen’s base salary jumps to $3 million and that’s guaranteed. Olson also has a
$2.5 million option bonus in 2012. In 2013, Olsen’s base salary increases to $3.75 million and he
has a $250,000 workout bonus for that offseason. In 2014 and 2015, Olsen is scheduled to make
$5.25 million in base salary each season. He also has a $250,000 workout bonus in each of those
years.
Joseph Person, Charlotte Observer: the Panthers converted $3 million in base salary to bonus
money in a move that created about $2 million against the cap, a source with knowledge of the
situation said Friday. Olsen, 27, who is signed through 2015, was scheduled to make $3.75
million in base salary this year.
Joe Person, Charlotte Observer: The Panthers signed Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen to a threeyear contract extension… the extension is worth $22.5 million and includes a $12 million signing
bonus.
Joel Corry, NFP: The Panthers pick up $1.5M of 2015 cap room with Greg Olsen's 3-year, 22.5M
contract extension. His cap number goes from $7.8M to $6.3M… Olsen's 2015, 2016 , 2017 &
2018 salary cap numbers are $6.3M, $5.1M, $10.35M & 9.75M after his contract extension…

Pat Yasinskas, Charlotte Observer: Smith, a third-round draft pick from Utah, signed a three-year
deal that paid him a $500,000 signing bonus. His base salary for this year is $209,000, $298,000
in 2002 and $389,000 in 2003. The contract includes no incentives or workout or reporting
bonuses.
Tom Silverstein, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: six years, $26.5 million, $9 million signing bonus [in
2004]
Mike Florio, PFT: Under the [2004] contract, Smith received a $7 million signing bonus and a $2
million option bonus. It averages $4.4 million over the life of the deal, and $5.08 million over
the first three years. He'll earn $1.85 million this year via salary, roster bonus, and workout
bonus.
Steve Reed, Gaston Gazette: The contract that made Steve Smith one of league’s highest-paid
wide receivers totals $43.95 million over the next six years, including $17.3 million in bonus
money, according to league sources. Smith, who signed the contract on Tuesday, received a $9.3
million bonus when he signed his new con-tract and will make an additional $1 million in base
salary this season. Smith will earn an additional $6 million in bonus money in 2008 along with a
$1.75 million base salary and then another $2 million bonus in 2009 and a $3.4 million base
salary. The final three years of Smith’s contract are worth $20.5 million. All told that is $32.3
million in new money.Under his old contract, Smith was scheduled to make $11.55 million over
the next three seasons. In-stead, he’ll get $23.45 million over the next three seasons, an
increase of $11.9 million. Smith had been scheduled to make base salaries of $3.15 million this
year, $4.1 million next year and $4.3 million in 2009 before the old contract was torn up.
Mike Florio, PFT: The [2008] roster bonus is fully guaranteed against injury, but not for skill.
Aaron Wilson, Scout.com: Smith received a $10 million signing bonus with his four-year, $37.75
million contract extension that includes an option year in 2016, according to a league source
with direct knowledge of the deal. Smith's deal includes a $3 million option bonus. The deal
includes a $1 million base salary in 2012, and a salary-cap figure of $5.963 million this year.
That's down from his originally-scheduled $10.713 million salary-cap figure for 2012 for a total
savings of $4.75 million against the salary cap.
In 2013, Smith's $3.75 million base salary is fully guaranteed for skill, injury and cap with no
offset language. His salary-cap figure for 2013 is $5.75 million. In 2014, Smith is due a $4 million
base salary with $3 million of that number fully guaranteed for skill, injury and cap. However,
that voids if the $3 million option bonus isn't picked up. The team has between June 1 and June
30 of 2014 to pick up Smith's option. His salary-cap figure for 2014 is $7 million. In 2015, Smith is
due a $7 million base salary and a $10 million salary-cap figure. In 2016, the option year, Smith
has a $9 million base salary and a $12 million salary-cap figure.

Adam Schefter, ESPN: Stewart signed a five-year extension worth $36.5 million and a max of
$42.5, including $22.5 million guaranteed.
Mike Florio, PFT: Stewart receives $11.5 million fully guaranteed in 2012, with another $11.5
million that is guaranteed for injury only until the third day of the 2013 waiver period, at which
time it becomes fully guaranteed. Stewart’s compensation for 2012 includes a $9 million signing
bonus. He’s also due a $9 million option bonus in 2013. The other $5 million in guarantees
comes from base salaries. The deal averages $7.3 million per year, with annual escalators of
$1.5 million in 2015, 2016, and 2017 based on 1,200 yards rushing or 1,600 yards rushing and
receiving. Another $500,000 in each of those years is available based on higher levels of
performance. Stewart, who was due to earn $1.311 million in 2012, opted to do a deal now and
avoid the franchise tag in 2013.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: The deal is worth $37.811 million and includes $23 million in guaranteed
money. Stewart received a $9 million signing bonus and his salary-cap figure for 2012 jumped $1
million to $4.78 million. In 2013, Stewart will make $1 million in base salary and his cap figure
will be $2.8 million. In 2014, Stewart can pick up a $9 million option bonus, his base salary will
be $1.5 million and his cap figure rises to $5.5 million. In 2015, Stewart’s base salary will be
$4.25 million and his cap figure increases to $8.55 million. In 2016, Stewart has a $5 million base
salary and a $9.8 million cap figure. In the final year of the deal, the base salary is $5.5 million
and the cap figure drops a bit to $8.5 million.
Brian McIntyre, NFL.com: the $9 million option bonus in 2014 is to be exercised between the
first and 10th day of the 2014 league year… Stewart's deal includes $23 million in stated
guarantees, but that number is actually a bit higher since it does not include his $811,250 base
salary from 2012. Also, if you include the $1.75 million non-guaranteed portion of his $4.25
million base salary in 2015, the figure rises to around $25.5 million, which would narrowly edge
out the $25 million that was essentially guaranteed in Williams' contract. (By the way, $2.5
million of Stewart's 2015 base salary is guaranteed for injury right now, but will become fully
guaranteed three days after Super Bowl XLVII)… Over the next three seasons, Williams will earn
$21.311 million.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: They’d take an immediate $7 million cap hit if they released Stewart, who is
scheduled to count $3.015 million against the 2013 cap. That’s largely because Stewart’s base
salary is guaranteed for each of the next three seasons and only one year of his pro-rated
money has been eaten up.
Brian McInytyre, Yahoo Sports: Stewart was scheduled to earn $1 million in fully guaranteed
base salary in 2013. Under the renegotiation, Stewart's base salary was lowered to $715,000 –
and became fully guaranteed a few days after Super Bowl XLVII – and the 2008 first-round pick
out of Oregon received a $2.5 million signing bonus, which was comprised of a portion of
Stewart's original 2013 base salary ($285,000) and the remaining $2.215 million was taken from
a $9 million option bonus that is due in 2014. Stewart's 2014 option bonus is now worth $6.875
million.
In terms of cash, Stewart will still earn $1 million in 2013 as $2.215 million of his signing bonus
was deferred until April 1, 2014. Stewart's cap number, however, has increased from $2.8
million to $3.015 million this season… In addition to his 2013 salary being fully guaranteed, by
remaining on the Panthers' roster three days into the start of the 2013 waiver wire period,
Stewart's $1.5 million base salary in 2014 and $2.5 million of his $4.25 million base salary in
2015 are now fully guaranteed.
Brian McIntyre: Stewart tweaked his deal, as well. $1.5M base reduced to $785k. Remainder
($715k) was added to his $6.785M option bonus… So Stewart gets $7.5M signing bonus,
prorated over 5 years. Renegotiation lowers 2014 cap number by $911,250…

Brian McIntyre, Yahoo Sports: Williams was entering the third season of a five-year, $43 million
contract and was scheduled to earn $5 million in cash with an $8.2 million salary cap number for
2013. Williams will still receive $5 million in cash this year, but the deal has been restructured in
a way that reduces his cap number to $5 million… Williams was scheduled to earn $4.75 million
in non-guaranteed base salary with a $250,000 workout bonus this season. Under the
renegotiated contract, Williams' base salary was lowered to $850,000 and his workout bonus
reduced to $150,000. The remaining $4 million was converted to a signing bonus, which will be
prorated against the Panthers' cap at $800,000 per season through 2017.
The real cash savings for the Panthers occurs in 2014 and 2015. Prior to restructuring his
contract, Williams was scheduled to earn base salaries of $5.75 million in 2014 and $6.75 million
in 2015 with $250,000 in annual workout bonuses ($500,000 total) for a total of $13 million. The
restructured deal reduces those base salaries to $1.85 million in each season (with up to
$750,000 available in undisclosed base salary escalators in each year) with $150,000 in annual
workout bonuses ($300,000 total). Williams is also due a $1 million option bonus — prorated
over the 2015-17 seasons — between the first and fourth day of the 2015 league year… The
Panthers tacked on two "dummy" years in 2016 and 2017 for proration purposes, but both of
those seasons will void if Williams is on the Panthers' roster four days after Super Bowl L (Feb.
11, 2016).
