III You should be able to respond to one of the following in a short essay.
1. Compare and Contrast the dualistic account of human nature offered by Descartes with the
non-dualistic treatment offered by Hume. Which do you think offers the better account of
creatures like us? Make sure to argue for your point of view.
2. Explain and criticize or defend Hume’s view of human nature, making sure you discuss how
Hume’s empiricism conditions his view.
3. Explain and critically evaluate how the notion of freedom operates in Kant’s theory of human
nature.
4. Summarize and evaluate Marx’s account of human nature as Homo Faber, paying particular
attention to the role played by the concept of alientation in his diagnosis.
