Course Description:
Algebra 1 is intended to build a foundation for all higher math classes. This
course will review algebraic expressions, integers, and mathematical properties
that will lead into working with variables and linear equations. There will be an indepth study of graphing, polynomials, quadratic equations, data analysis and
systems of equations through direct class instruction, group work, homework,
student projects and technology.
Unit 01: The Study of Functions
Unit 02: Algebraic Expressions and Equations
Unit 03: Linear Equations, Inequalities, and Applications
Unit 04: Investigating Linear Functions
Unit 05: Linear Functions and Applications
Unit 06: Systems of Linear Equations
Unit 07: Systems of Linear Equations and Applications
Unit 08: Exponents and Polynomial Operations

All students will be consistently challenged to expand their knowledge and skills
to the next level.
How can I be successful?
 Stay on top of your account in Schoology.
 Check txGradebook for updates of grades. Addressing low grades early
gives more time to bring the grades up.
 Check the website for lesson plans and agenda.
 Check homework to ensure it is completed before it is turned in.
 Stay organized.
 Contact teachers early through email so that we can help you.
 Grades, Health Issues, Family Issues
Supplies
MacBook Pro
3 ring binder with pockets (or some other method of keeping hard copy
handouts)
TI Graphing calculator TI-83 or TI-84(a classroom set is available, but these are
not available for students to take home. A student may want to use their own
calculator in class. The TI graphing calculator will be used for the rest of the
student’s career including on many college tests; it is a good investment.)
Notebook paper
Graph paper
Pencils
Grading Policy
50% Daily work
(Class work, Homework, Participation)
50% Quizzes/Tests/Projects
Retake / Retest
Any student may retake or redo any assignment to obtain an average grade for
that assignment. In order to retake a test, the student must make corrections on
a separate sheet of paper, schedule a time for reteaching, and obtain a signature
from a teacher that the student attended the reteaching. Redos and retakes
must be completed within in 5 school days of receiving the graded assignment.
The assignment must have been completed on time in order to redo.
Grades will be entered into the gradebook on a weekly basis.
Classroom Expectations





Each student will be expected to abide by all school rules and regulations as
outlined in the Bridgeport ISD Student Code of Conduct
Be on time for class.
o A student will be in dress code, with supplies, in their seat, silently
working on bell work prior to the bell ringing.
Gum, candy, and food are not allowed in the classroom.
Show respect to the community.
o Do not destroy or deface equipment, furniture, or books.
o Students will be held responsible for damaged materials.
Leave the room in better condition than you found it.
Classroom Discipline
You will receive a “point” every time the teacher has to re-direct you for your
behavior… this includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Talking without permission
Out of your seat
Out of dress code
Not working
Distracting others
Any other inappropriate classroom behavior…
Consequences for points accumulated during the week…
1-2 points = Warning
3 points = Parent Contact
4-6 points = Detention
7 or more points = Referral
***3 in one day = Automatic Detention***
***4 in one day= Automatic Referral***
Points will reset to ZERO every Monday…
Rules:
1. Follow directions the first time they are given.
2. Be in seat when the bell rings.
3. Ask permission to talk or to leave your seat.
 Never talk while the teacher is talking.
4. Keep hands, feet, and objects in your space.
5. Bring all needed materials to class.
 You will need the following materials everyday: MacBook Pro, Pencil,
and Paper. Do not expect to go back to your locker if you forget them.
Group Work Boundaries:
1.
2.
3.
4.
Stay with your group.
Do not disturb other groups.
One person talks at a time.
Talk about your group task.
Daily Work and Homework





The weekly agenda can be found at http://c2.bridgeportisd.net//Domain/347
Work will be submitted on schoology or turned into the box at the beginning of
class.
Work may be typed or completed in pencil. Work in ink will not be accepted.
Late work will be accepted according to math department policy.
o 1st day late – 20 points off
o More than one day lete – grade of 0
Cheating is academic dishonesty. A zero will be given to both parties
involved.
Tardies and Absences

Students are to be in their seats when the bell rings. If you are tardy, DO NOT
disrupt the class. If you are tardy: enter quietly, sign the log book, find your seat.
DO NOT disrupt the class.

Getting make-up work is your responsibility. The assignments will be posted
daily on the assignment board and any necessary papers will be available for you
in folders. Remember…you have one day to finish the work for every day you
are absent. Being absent requires you to do more work when you return in order
to catch up.
