Vocabulary Notes
• Free Verse: describes poetry without a fixed
pattern of meter and rhyme
• Syntax = a system or orderly arrangement.
– Rules or patterns used in the formation of
sentences or phrases ex. grammar choice
• Stanza: Group of lines usually similar in length
and patter, that form a unit within a poem
• Rhyme scheme: a consistent pattern of rhyme
through a poem; abab/cdcd/efef/ghgh
