• What Does Longsuffering Mean?
– In Greek makrothumia and hupomeno
• Makrothumia means long temper relating to
people and love
• Hupemeno means long temper relating to
circumstances and hope
– Agape love: a selfless , self-sacrificing love
• A choice of the will, not based on emotions or
senses
– Longsuffering or patience means slow to
wrath
• One Aspect of Fruit of the Holy Spirit
– Gal. 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, selfcontrol; against such things there is no law.

– Because of love, there is peace, joy, and
patience
– Opposite of patience is impatience
– Impatience causes quick temper, rudeness,
meanness, and lack of self control
• God is slow to wrath; patient
