• Who – Samuel Worchester fought for the Cherokee
Indians
• What – A Supreme Court Case
• When - 1832
• Where – State of Georgia
• Why – Georgia did not recognize their sovereign status,
but saw them as tenants living on state land
• Outcome – Chief Justice John Marshall ruled in favor of
the Indians, they could stay and did not have to move.
Pres. Jackson said, “John Marshall has made his
decision, now let him enforce it.”
