The 14 th Global IPv6 Next Generation Internet Summit was held successfully in the
Presidential Beijing on April 18, 2014. Lasting for one day and a half, the summit was jointly held by Global IPv6 Forum and BII. With the latest emerging technologies, it placed emphasis on such topics as “IPv6 and the Development of the Internet of Things”,
“Construction of Next Generation Internet Pilot Cities”, “Management of the Internet”,
“IPv6 and Cloud Computing & Big Data”, “IPv6 and SDN”, “IPv6 and Mobile
Internet-LTE & BYOD” and “Next Generation Internet Key Technology Testbed”.
Therefore, it has promoted the development of future Internet technologies and established a platform of exchange, discussion and strategic cooperation for the global IPv6 industry.
Nearly one thousand people attended the summit, and 70% of them were operators while others included manufacturers, university users, Internet enterprises and user representatives of group enterprises. Moreover, exhibition zones like IPv6 Ready Show and
IPv6 Show Case were established on site. The IPv6 Ready Show, which was built by Global
IPv6 Center, displayed the devices of such manufacturers like HUAWEI, ZTE, DCN, IXIA,
Leadsec, Secworld, Maipu, DPtec, TOPSEC, Banggoo, NSFOCUS, Venustec, NETENTSEC,
KNET, A10, FiberHome, BLUEDON, T1Networks and KYLAND. With the access to the websites that have passed the IPv6 Enabled certification, all devices were connected to run together, the participants experienced the smoothness and high speed of IPv6 in a wifi environment. Additionally, Ruijie, IXIA, REYZAR, DCN and China Telecom established their booths on site, exhibiting their IPv6-related solutions and attracting great attention.
The IPv6 summit pushed the IPv6 industry to a new height again. According to the reports on gmw.cn, the focuses of the summit are as follow:
Supporting policies are clear and the industrial development is promising;
The number of IPv6 users has increased from 2.5% in August 2013 to the present 3%;
The products related to the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 are mature, and there are no problems in terms of technology;
IPv6 dual-stack solution is a mainstream one in China;
Global IPv6 & Next Generation Internet Summit 2014
April 17-18, The Presidential Beijing
China has made contribution to the IETF Standard in the popularization of IPv6;
Domain system terminals have gradually supported IPv6;
LTE has provided complete interface for IPv6 application;
The future of IPv6 application is promising, and all enterprises in the industry still need to make common efforts;
IPv6 stocks have begun to rise along with the process of conference;
The era of IPv6 is coming. Have we well prepared us for it?!
Last but not least, we hereby express gratitude to Global IPv6 Forum, BII, China Telecom,
China Mobile, China Unicom and EU-FIRE who have shown great support for the summit.

Global IPv6 & Next Generation Internet Summit 2014
April 17-18, The Presidential Beijing
“Gradually stop IPv4 and fully deploy IPv6 and begin to use the Internet of the 21 st century”. Vint Cerf, the Father of global Internet, expressed this view in an interview the other day. As what he said, topics like “the Progress of Global IPv6 Development”,
“China’s Construction of Next Generation Internet Pilot Cities” and “the Application of
Emerging Technologies in Next Generation Internet” attracted great attention in the Global
IPv6 Next Generation Internet Summit 2014 held on April 17, 2014. At the summit, over one hundred experts in global Internet gathered for discussion, pushing the industry of global
Internet into a new era of IPv6.
Global Internet Industry Has Entered A New Era of IPv6
In the past two years, there has been a new opportunity of development for the global IPv6 industry. Meanwhile, the commercial deployment has speeded up and a large number of emerging industries about IPv6 have developed rapidly. According to Google’s analysis graph of IPv6 data usage, the IPv6 data usage around the world has exceeded 3%. Based on the statistics of IPv6 Forum (Global IPv6 Forum), the number of Chinese IPv6 users in 2013 was over 5 million. The IPv6 data usage across the world is increasing exponentially.
At the Global IPv6 Next Generation Internet Summit 2014, Vint Cerf, the Father of global
Internet, highly praised China in his speech for its great contribution to the global IPv6 industry and said that, “China’s construction of IPv6 pilot cities is an exciting historical turning point for both China and the world.” Chen Jiachun, Deputy Director-General of the
Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, was also quoted as saying, “In
2014, China’s IPv6 Next Generation Internet will enter a stage of full commercial deployment, undertake large-scale deployment and commercialization of the IPv6 network, and gradually stop distributing IPv4 addresses for new users and applications. The year
2014 is also a key year to quicken the implementation of the strategy of Broadband China.
The development of IPv6 Next Generation Internet will accelerate the construction of
China’s new-generation information infrastructure and promote the extensive application of information network technologies. Moreover, it will further stimulate consumption,
Global IPv6 & Next Generation Internet Summit 2014
April 17-18, The Presidential Beijing investment and export and spur the development of the information industry, hi-tech service industry and the economic society!”
Emerging Industries and Traditional Ones Jointly Promote the Development of IPv6
While IPv6 Next Generation Internet is developing rapidly, many emerging industries have risen up. At the summit, how emerging industries like LTE mobile Internet developing with
IPv6 was one of the hot topics. International institutions like IPv6 Forum, APNIC, China
Telecom, China Mobile, Chunghwa Telecom and H3C and famous operators and manufacturers at home and abroad all depicted the development trend of mobile Internet based on the technologies of IPv6 Next Generation Internet. Undoubtedly, the rapid development of emerging industries will, to a large extent, quicken the full deployment of
IPv6 Next Generation Internet. Meanwhile, the commercialization of Next Generation
Internet will accelerate the market development of the emerging industries, and the entire industry chain will become increasingly complete.
Internet has become one of major infrastructure for the survival and development of humanity. Technological progress and the increase in demand have also brought IPv6 Next
Generation Internet great attention from traditional industries, just as Liu Dong – the
Director of Beijing Internet Institute & CEO of BII and the Chairman of the Summit, said at the conference, “The full deployment of IPv6 Next Generation Internet will be an excellent opportunity for enterprises to make a transformation. Traditional industries should seize the opportunity to apply new-generation Internet technologies like IPv6, promote the combination of traditional industries and information technologies, improve IPv6-based application service, and develop new business models so as to make great progress under the beneficial circumstance. We are standing at a great historical turning point, and a step alone will lead us into a new era.”
