COMMON CORE SHIFTS
“Give a man a fish……………
A change away from the “sit and get”
method of instruction. Instead of
teachers giving students the answers
and expecting them to give the
answers back, students must find the
answers, demonstrate understanding
by applying their knowledge to realworld situations and explain them in
writing.
COMMON CORE SHIFTS –
DEEPER LEARNING
WE NEED TO SHIFT AWAY FROM - Lectures,
powerpoint presentations, worksheets, “teacher
talk”, memorizing facts and giving them back on
a multiple choice test, etc, etc, etc,
TO
Student-centered learning, students reading, writing
and thinking, discussing and arguing, applying
knowledge to solve problems, hands-on learning
with an emphasis on DEEPER LEARNING.
