1.0 RATIONALE
Purpose of the SDP 2014
The school development plan (SDP) is a strategic plan for improvement. It aims to bring together, in a clear and simple way, the
school’s priorities following a process of self-evaluation, the main measures it will take to raise standards, the resources dedicated to
these and the key outcomes and targets it intends to achieve. This SDP is a living document that all members of staff will use as a
reference point in evaluating, developing and improving their work whilst keeping a close focus on pupils, their learning and
improving the outcomes they achieve.

common understanding of it
6. To relate school assembly speeches to the school vision/ mission
7. To have posters of school vision/ mission in staff rooms and library

2.3 Analysis of Strengths, Challenges, Opportunities and Threats (SCOT Analysis):Whole school self
Evaluation
Our Strengths




In Forest Side SSS there is a pool of well motivated educators who show a high level of professionalism and who are very
dedicated in their work
There is close collaboration and co-operation among staff (teaching and non-teaching)thus always prevailing team spirit
Most educators are IT literate which is in line with the policies of the Ministry of Education and HR
The prefect body and student council also play an important part in the smooth running of the institution.
Our Challenges







The school lacks a gymnasium which prevents students from developing their full potential in sports
The high level of absenteeism on the part of students weighs to some extent on their performance
During the past year, students had continuously faced transport problem mostly on the south route
It has also been noted that there has been a problem concerning students who shirk classes
There is a lack of involvement concerning parents, although in AGMs constantly emphasis is put on the participation of
parents in school matters
Cleanliness and hygiene still remains a matter of concern
Discipline at school
Our Opportunities
 A motivated staff and a supportive PTA
 Good intake
Our Threat
 Learners with disruptive behaviours needing specialised care not available in our school.

SCOT Analysis
Strength
 There is a strong interest in the subject on the whole
 There are continuous assessments and evaluations going on during each term, specially a common assessment each term for all
the classes, pushing the pupils to constantly revise.
 The pupils are results-oriented to a high degree
Challenges
 There is room for improvement of quality of results as well as quantity-wise.
 Additional mathematics results need to be improved
 Subsidiary level Mathematics at HSC level remain a problem
Opportunities
 Our intake as CPE level is good
 Activity periods are available. National and international competitions are to be encouraged
Threats
 High population of classes of Boys do not allow for a satisfactory follow-up of pupils, whether high achievers or poor
performers. For Mathematics(like most important core subjects), the teacher ratio is well above 30:1, contrary to common
sense.
 Classroom management is very difficult; especially that societal control on youth is deteriorating. Discipline problems are
increasing.

Strengths
Accounting is an appealing subject to students. Many students are interested in learning the subject. The finance world provides a lot
of opportunities tertiary education courses and job prospects.
Challenges
However the main challenges laying ahead would be to move from the traditional teaching learning process to technology enhanced
classrooms.
Opportunities
There is the opportunity for the educator to create enriched learning opportunities for the students through project based and
collaborative learning. The objective is to create active and autonomous learners.
Threats
There is the tendency to believe that the subject is an easy and traditional subject. However this is totally unfounded as accounting has
undergone and is currently undergoing major changes. The finance world is becoming more and more complex. At school level, it has
been observed that bright students choose science based subjects.

Strengths:
Knowledge of the roots, origin and content of the syllabus of the subject which facilitate the understanding of the students. Learning
and character building is aimed with the learning of this subject.
Weaknesses:
Students do not present their ideas properly in a constructive sentence. Students do not take the pain of cultivating the habit of practice
in essay-writing. They have to take it to be the tendency to take the subject very lightly though its syllabus is bulky. They have a
common tendency of writing narrative essays on topics like gods and goddesses and festivals with the little knowledge they have
acquired at home.
Opportunities:
Students get the opportunity to acquire knowledge about Indian culture and values. The importance of concepts like prayer, love,
sacrifice, hard work and among others. An opportunity at personal grooming and practice of values.
Threats:
Too much exposure to wrong information available on the internet or gathered from the media. Students are often confused from what
they learnt as lessons in class and from that they acquired at home.
