Our Challenges The school lacks a gymnasium which prevents students from developing their full potential in sports The high level of absenteeism on the part of students weighs to some extent on their performance During the past year, students had continuously faced transport problem mostly on the south route It has also been noted that there has been a problem concerning students who shirk classes There is a lack of involvement concerning parents, although in AGMs constantly emphasis is put on the participation of parents in school matters Cleanliness and hygiene still remains a matter of concern Discipline at school Our Opportunities A motivated staff and a supportive PTA Good intake Our Threat Learners with disruptive behaviours needing specialised care not available in our school. 9 3.0 SCHOOL PROFILE Date opened: January 2004 Classes run: Up to Upper VI Options: Form VPupils offer 8 subjects [including English, French, and Mathematics] at forms 4/5 level in 3 streams: A Additional Mathematics Physics Chemistry Literature in English Arabic Marathi Tamil Telegu Urdu Computer Design & Tech Biology Art & Design Sociology Hinduism Islamic Studies Computer Physical Education B Additional Maths or French Literature Economics Accounts Lit in English Arabic Marathi Tamil Telegu Urdu Computer Design & Tech C Add Maths or Business Studies Economics Accounts Lit in English Arabic Marathi Tamil Telegu Urdu Computer Design & Tech Business studies Sociology Art & Design Hinduism Islamic Studies Computer Physical Education Art & Design Sociology Hinduism Islamic Studies Computer Physical Education 10 Option Lower VI: Science Economics/ Art Main 1 Maths Maths Sociology Business Main 2 Chemistry Design & Tech Computer Main 3 Physics Biology French Economics AL English Accounts Hinduism Islamic 11 Sub French Biology AL Hinduism Islamic French Maths Business AL Hinduism Islamic Sociology GP School population: 1006 @ 24.04.13 F O P E I 40 40 42 II 41 39 37 III 40 36 42 IV 39 44 40 35 V 32 30 30 36 REP E1 E2 E3 SC TECH LVI 33 42 18 45 42 UVI 11 32 29 31 TEAK PV2A 26 PV2B 16 PV3 23 PV4 15 12 Total Teaching staff: 66 Administrative staff: Ag. The pupils are results-oriented to a high degree Challenges There is room for improvement of quality of results as well as quantity-wise. Additional mathematics results need to be improved Subsidiary level Mathematics at HSC level remain a problem Opportunities Our intake as CPE level is good Activity periods are available. National and international competitions are to be encouraged Threats High population of classes of Boys do not allow for a satisfactory follow-up of pupils, whether high achievers or poor performers. For Mathematics(like most important core subjects), the teacher ratio is well above 30:1, contrary to common sense. Classroom management is very difficult; especially that societal control on youth is deteriorating. Many students are interested in learning the subject. The finance world provides a lot of opportunities tertiary education courses and job prospects. Challenges However the main challenges laying ahead would be to move from the traditional teaching learning process to technology enhanced classrooms. Opportunities There is the opportunity for the educator to create enriched learning opportunities for the students through project based and collaborative learning. The objective is to create active and autonomous learners. Threats There is the tendency to believe that the subject is an easy and traditional subject. However this is totally unfounded as accounting has undergone and is currently undergoing major changes. The finance world is becoming more and more complex.
