Use metaphors and similes to define
or describe what love “means” or “is”
to you.
Assessment Activity
Independently, complete the
graphic organizer using a topic of
your choice.
Remember to focus on getting ideas
down, not complete sentences.

 Use metaphors and similes from
graphic organizer to create your
definition poem.
 Define or describe your topic by
beginning each line with the topic and
then the word “is.” For ex.: Sad is….,
Hungry is…., Crazy is….
Stage of Writing: Drafting
Take ideas from graphic organizer
and put into sentences
Skip lines to leave room for revisions
later. Place an X on every other line.
Clearly label “draft” at the top of
your paper
Neatness and spelling are not
important
