Abstract: The present study was designed to compare the effectiveness of video modeling with
in vivo modeling for teaching developmental skills to children with autism. A multiple baseline
design across five children and within child across the two modeling conditions (video and in
vivo) and across tasks was used. Each child was presented two similar tasks from his or her
curriculum; one task was used for the video condition, while the other was used for the in vivo
condition. Video modeling consisted of each child watching a videotape of models performing
the target behavior, whereas in vivo modeling consisted of the children observing live models
perform the target behavior. After the observations, children were tested for acquisition and
generalization of target behaviors. Results suggest that video modeling led to faster acquisition
of tasks than in vivo modeling and was effective in promoting generalization. Results are
discussed in terms of video modeling's motivating and attention maintaining qualities.

Abstract: A large number of studies have shown that children and youths with autism can improve their
social skills when provided with appropriate and well planned treatment strategies. Here, a video
modeling procedure was implemented with seven developmentally delayed children, using a multipletreatment design. Each child watched a videotape showing a model and the experimenter engaged in
a simple social interactive play in an adapted play setting. Afterwards each child's behavior was
assessed in this setting, while the experimenter's behavior remained the same as that shown in the
videotape. The video modeling training enhanced the social initiation skills of four children. It also
facilitated appropriate play engagement, which generalized across settings, peers, and toys. These
changes maintained after a 1- and 2-month follow-up period. The intervention was evaluated as a
time-efficient teaching tool as well as a means of enhancing appropriate play skills. Copyright (c)

Introduction: Entering kindergarten is an exciting and scary time. Children make new friends
and have meaningful relationships with adults and peers. Now imagine if you were unable to
create those relationships. When autistic children enter kindergarten, many of them lack the
social skills necessary for school. In this web-quest we hope to introduce all children entering
kindergarten to the social skills they will rely on. Children will practice and watch videos during
the web-quest and perform the newly acquired skills for an evaluator.
The Task : After the child participates in the WebQuest he/she will perform the skills that they
saw.
The Process:

First you will listen to the directions.

You will then watch the first video.

Perform the skill to the teacher, which you just saw in the video.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you arrive at the end of the WebQuest.

After you have completed all of the steps and have arrived at the end your teacher will evaluate you on your overall
performance on identifying and correctly using social skills.
Conclusion:
This WebQuest provides various ways of learning, including: visual, auditory,
and kinetic learning. By completing this activity you should now be able to accurately perform
these social skills in your daily life.
