The Three Major Lenses
The LENS Diversity Certificate Program
operates on a framework that encourages
students to view and explore diversity, social
justice, and intercultural relations through
three perspective lenses: micro, meso, and
macro.
– The micro-lens focuses on the individual’s
personal culture and the intersection of identities
– The meso-lens focuses on the interpersonal
relationships and cross-cultural communication
– The macro-lens focuses on the institutional,
societal, and cultural influences in social justice

Cohort Mentoring Group
•
Meet with your peers to discuss your progress and frame your learning in a
larger context
•
A key component of this process is self-reflection. Students will attend
OIIR-staff-led meetings twice a semester with their peers to share their
perspectives and relate learning to a larger context. They will also fill out a
LENSfocus, which is the student’s action plan to achieve their personal
goals and certificate requirements in an efficient manner.
•
Meetings will include: establishing community, networking opportunities,
facilitated discussions, and learning from each others’ experiences and
perspectives
Processing Workbook
•
Document your unique journey in the program and utilize it as a tool to
further your development in social justice
•
Students will be provided with a processing workbook to record their
experiences within the program and to serve as a tangible symbol of their
incredible journey. Students will be able to identify what skills they gained
and cultivated, what experiences have influenced them the most, what
challenges they faced, and what strategies they used to overcome them.
•
These workbooks are personal to the student and not required to be shared
with others.
Thanks for coming!
