Dear
Further to your recent discussion with XXX, I am writing to confirm that it may be
necessary to consider your dismissal by reason of redundancy.
I am now writing to invite you to a meeting with XXX (HOU/PI) and a member of the
Human Resources (HR) team (where appropriate) in accordance with the Redundancy
Procedure. For more detailed information on the Procedure please see the following
link: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/hr/policy/leaving/redundancy.php
The meeting will take place on XXX at XXX in XXX. Please note that you have the right
to be accompanied at this meeting by a work colleague or trade union representative.
The meeting will give us the opportunity to discuss the situation in more detail, and will
give you the opportunity to present your views and to discuss any alternative options
which you feel might enable your employment to be continued. I would encourage you
to prepare in advance of this meeting any information which you would like to be taken
into consideration in coming to a decision regarding your continued employment with the
University.
For staff with more than 6 months service at end of contract
A pro forma will be completed during the meeting as a record of the key points that were
discussed and any agreed actions. You will be asked to sign this pro forma to confirm
that it is a true record of the discussion. You will then have a further five working days in
which to provide any supplementary information you may wish to be taken into
consideration when reaching a decision using the employee comments form which can
be found at http://www.ncl.ac.uk/hr/policy/leaving/redundancy.php. This information
should be returned directly to your HR team. If applicable, the pro forma and any further
information you choose to supply will be considered by the Joint University and UCU
Consultative Group and will be sent for final review by the Registrar/Faculty Pro Vice
Chancellor. I shall then write to you again to communicate the decision of the
Registrar/Faculty Pro Vice Chancellor and to inform you of your right to appeal.
I would like to remind you that, if you are eligible, you have already been added to
register for the Redeployment website, which enables you to receive prior notification of
all vacancies within the University. If you do not wish to be considered for
redeployment, please inform HR as soon as possible. You also have the right to
reasonable time off to seek alternative employment and/or to access training, though it
is important to agree any time off in advance with your Manager or Head of Unit. For
further information on the University’s Redeployment Policy, see
http://www.ncl.ac.uk/hr/policy/redeployment.php
For staff with ≤6 months service at end of contract
A pro forma is not required to be completed. Information regarding your potential
redundancy will be considered by the Joint University and UCU Consultative Group (if
applicable) and will be sent for final review by the Registrar/Faculty Pro Vice Chancellor.
I shall then write to you again to communicate the decision of the Registrar/Faculty Pro
Vice Chancellor and to inform you of your right to appeal.
I would be grateful if you could confirm your attendance at the meeting and to inform me
if you are being accompanied and who the person will be at the earliest possible
opportunity.
Yours sincerely
Head of Unit or Nominee
