Today you will use the College Search to find colleges that match your interests. The College Search feature allows you to search for colleges based on several criteria including: Type of School Location Major Enrollment At any point in the college search you can click on “Show Matches,” and view a list of colleges that meet your criteria Once you have a list of matching colleges you can select that college to learn more detailed information about that school. Now that you have selected a college you can view information regarding admissions, financial aid, majors and student life. If this is a college that you like you can add it to your list of colleges that you are thinking about. This college will now appear in your list of “colleges that you are thinking about.” Now you can continue to research other schools and visit the Naviance site to review your information. You can also use the colleges tab to locate scholarship, summer programs, college maps and other resources Your Assignment • Read and review the How to Select a College Power Point – This will help you to better understand what criteria to use when selecting a college. • Complete the College Finder – Using the Naviance Orientation power point, navigate your way to the Family Connections portal and log in. Once you are logged in locate the college tab and select the College Finder and complete the assessment. • Identify possible colleges – Once you have finished the college survey, identify 10 or more colleges in which you have an interest. Add these to your list of colleges you are thinking about Connection.naviance.com/lebanonshs Your Assignment • Lastly – Journal Entry – Find and select the tab all “About Me” – Next find the “Journal” link – Once you have found the link and selected it add a new journal entry and in the subject line title it as First College Search Reaction – Share this entry with your counselors, teachers, and parents. Homeroom teachers may not give answers but they may provide assistance through guided questions if students become “stuck.” Students can work individually or in a team.
